UPDATE: DAYTON THE COWARD #9
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: "SCARED SENATOR PULLS STAFF
A midwestern senator, rattled by a recent security briefing, said yesterday he's pulling his staff off Capitol Hill out of concern for his workers' safety.
Sen. Mark Dayton (D-Minn.) said he decided to take the 'extreme, but necessary, precaution' after reading a top-secret memo made available to all U.S. senators.
He said he could not discuss its contents, but added, 'I would not bring my two sons to the Capitol between now and the election.'
Congress is in recess until after the Nov. 2 election, and while tensions have been high nationwide in advance of Election Day, a variety of federal officials and agencies said yesterday there have been no specific threats against Capitol Hill.
Dayton's decision 'was not met with agreement by his fellow senators,' a source close to the situation said.
None of the other 99 senators, including New Yorkers Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton, has plans to pull staff off Capitol Hill.
'We can't let nonimminent threats prevent us from doing our work,' said Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John Warner (R-Va.)." Source: New York Daily News, October 13, 2004
