GOP HOUSE CAUCUS: "THIS IS A SHAME. I THINK THIS IS KIND OF EMBARRASING."
House GOP slams DFLers on campaign finance procedures
Minnesota House Republicans say Democrats used a confusing system of campaign accounts to hide contributions and expenditures in last month's legislative races.
And they say a $300,000 contribution by DFL House Minority Leader Matt Entenza of St. Paul to a national political group was an attempt to avoid state campaign finance disclosure laws.Rep. Jeff Johnson, R-Plymouth, says the DFL financing is an elaborate effort to obscure the sources and uses of their funds.
"This is a shame. I think this is kind of embarrasing. And I think it's confusing and it's purposefully confusing so that it's very, very difficult to track where money's going," he said.
The state Republican Party says it's considering filing a campaign finance complaint against Entenza for attempting to circumvent campaign finance laws. Entenza says the GOP charge is baseless and that all contributions and expenditures are reported in their proper place.
Entenza says he and his wife donated roughly $600,000 to Democratic causes this year.
