Betty Folliard to Seek DFL Party Chair Office
Former State Representative Betty Folliard today announced her plans to seek the office of DFL Party Chair.
"I am pleased to announce my candidacy for the DFL Party Chair," said Folliard, a three-term state legislator from Golden Valley. "I would like to ensure election success in 2006 and put the DFL back into the winning circle." In addition to her three terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives, Folliard served as community director in Minnesota for the Kerry campaign and has been a progressive leader in Democratic politics for many years. Folliard is the co-owner of Strategy Partners, a business and political consulting firm.
During her tenure as a state legislator representing District 44A, including Hopkins, Minnetonka and St. Louis Park, Folliard applied her considerable knowledge of local issues, a passion to improve the quality of life of her community, and a strong background in education policy. In her six years in the Legislature, she served on the House Education Committee, Government Operations & Veteran Affairs, the Local Government and Metropolitan Affairs Committee, the House Environment Committee, and both Health and Human Services Policy and Finance Committees. She chaired the Teacher Preparation Subcommittee and served on several commissions including the Commission on the Economic Status of Women. These and other legislative accomplishments led to her appointment as vice chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures Environment Federal Issues Committee, in which capacity she was able to influence policy at the national level.
Folliard has served on a number of boards, including two terms on the Hopkins Board of Education, District 270, and member of the Strategic Planning Committee for Economic Growth of Hopkins. She founded The Salon for DFL women elected officials, sits on the DFL state central committee and was a delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Her community memberships also include board member of the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota, member of the Golden Valley Rotary, church elder for Valley Community Presbyterian Church and president of the Hidden Lakes Townhome Association.
Folliard was born in Madison, Wis., and grew up on the Stanford University campus. She graduated from Stanford University and was awarded a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Wayne State University. She has 5 grown children and she and her husband now live in Golden Valley.

1 Comments:
Isn't Betty Folliard known widely in our DFL party as being a failure? In 2002 she failed to get re-elected to the legislature, in six years in the legislature(two while being in the majority) she failed to get a single bill of her own through, and at the most recent DFL State Convention in May she ran for one of six State Director positions and failed to show up for an interview even though she printed literature so was instantly taken out of consideration.
Mike Erlandson has been a great leader, with his leadership we nearly took control of the State House, it is obvious that if Betty Folliard is chair of the party we are going to lose control of the State Senate in 2006 and lose more State House seats as well.
