DFL LOSES FIRST ROUND OF BUDGET GAMES
Although the Senate DFL will try again today to pass their proposal, yesterday's effort was a complete bust:
"After meeting in a closed-door caucus, Democratic-Farmer-Labor leaders in the Senate on Tuesday postponed a vote on a controversial $466 million deficit-reduction plan.
'There were still questions that caucus members had about the clarity and the intent,' said Senate Majority Leader Dean Johnson, DFL-Willmar.
With Sen. Steve Kelley, DFL-Hopkins, planning to vote against the plan, it was not clear that the Democratic majority could have mustered the bare minimum 34 votes needed to pass two deficit bills on Tuesday." Source: Pioneer Press, March 23, 2005
