HATCH FOR GOVERNOR TAKES A HIT
REPUBLICAN PARTY OF MINNESOTA CRITICIZES HATCH’S DECISION TO BREAK HIS WORD AND RUN FOR GOVERNOR
St. Paul – The Minnesota Republican Party today criticized Attorney General Mike Hatch’s decision to break his word and run for governor a third time.
“Mike Hatch has only been in the governor’s race for one day and he has already broken his word to the people of Minnesota. After repeatedly vowing not to run for governor a third time, Hatch’s legendary ambition once again got the best of him,” said Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Eibensteiner.
The Republican Party of Minnesota provided information showing that on at least four previous occasions, Hatch has stated that he would not run for governor a third time:
“‘I’ve run twice and I’ve lost twice. That’s enough for me,’ Hatch said.” (Chris Hamilton, “Hatch Takes Aim At Health Insurers, Weaver,” Duluth News Tribune, October 29, 1998)
“‘I have no interest in running for another office,’ he [Hatch] said. ‘I’m turning 50 this month. I’ve run for governor. I’ve got that out of my system.’” (Conrad deFiebre, “In Year Of Mavericks, DFLer Mike Hatch Finally Wins,” Star Tribune, November 5, 1998)
“‘No more running for governor,’ Hatch said recently.” (Brian Bakst, “Finally At Home At The Capitol,” [Grand Rapids] Herald Review, January 24, 1999)
“Running for governor is awful. It’s a proctoscopic exam. I’m too old for it.” (Conrad deFiebre, “Hatch Keeps Vow To Shake Things Up - Starting With His Office,” Star Tribune, August 1, 1999)
“When discussing Hatch, words like ‘chameleon,’ ‘cynical,’ and ‘opportunist’ come up again and again. And those are just from his fellow DFLers,” added Eibensteiner.
“No matter how extreme a makeover Hatch attempts, Minnesota voters aren't going to trust a candidate with that kind of opportunistic and inconsistent record,” concluded Eibensteiner. Source: Republican Party of Minnesota

Reminds me of Gil Gutknecht. Or Paul Wellstone, for that matter.
I'm not a big Hatch fan, but come on.
Rehashing 6-7 year-old quotes? That seem more like throw-away comments than declarations?
Not persuasive and rather pathetic.
With all the legal and financial problems Eibensteiner has had I can understand his attempts to change the subject to anything but himself.
And he's short on time to convince a lot of party faithful that he's up to the job of designated hitman if he wants to keep his job.
But he's gotta do better than this.
Throw-away quotes?
"No more running for governor,"
