I want to thank the DFLer who emailed me this tip!
Please join Senator Steve Kelley as he announces his bid to unseat Tim Pawlenty as the next governor of Minnesota.
Steve Kelley, chair of the Senate Education Committee and a leading expert on education in Minnesota, will be launching his campaign on June 1st, 2005.
Kelley will present a positive vision for Minnesota's future and will highlight the importance of a thriving educational system, affordable, accessible health care, and a fair tax system for all Minnesotans.
Smart: Steve Kelley is the Chair of the Senate Education Committee, and is Vice Chair of the Telecommunications Utilities and Commerce Committee. He is also the chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures Communications and Information Policy Committees.
Effective: Steve is a strong Democrat with a reputation for bipartisan cooperation to get good legislation passed. He has been a state legislator since 1992.
Education: He is the author of the $250/$250 Senate Education bill that adds $250 to the formula each of the next two years for each student, helping schools keep ahead of inflation. He also led the charge to reject the deeply flawed No Child Left Behind policy.
Energy: Steve Kelley already works to make Minnesota a leader in renewable energy. He was the original author of legislation aimed at moving Minnesota to a hydrogen economy, with the goal to see greater emphasis on wind power and less on coal.
Health Care: He supports making health care both accessible and affordable. He believes that providing healthcare through MnCare can save Minnesota money in the long run by preventing costlier illnesses, and keeping people out of expensive emergency rooms. Steve also was active in the area of medical licensing in the legislature. He was the author of the Adverse Health Events Reporting law, improving quality and cost control by establishing a reporting system which tracks gross medical errors.
Transportation: Steve supports investment in mass transit, (light rail, commuter rail, and bus) not just roads Pro-choice: He strongly supports a woman's right to determine her reproductive health care.
Stand with Steve Kelley on June 1 to show that we are ready for a new leader who will reclaim the Minnesota legacy of education and opportunity.
