JOHNSON IN KENTUCKY
"[House Speaker Steve] Sviggum also criticized Senate Majority Leader Dean Johnson, DFL-Willmar, for being out of the state Sunday. Johnson was in Kentucky attending a National Guard function and also planned to attend a dinner honoring Hennepin County Sheriff Pat McGowan, who was receiving a national award." Also in the article, which you undoubtedly hoped no one would actually read:
"Senator Johnson is every bit as available to all of us this evening as Gov. Pawlenty was [Saturday] when he was engaged in family activities; when Gov. Pawlenty was in Washington on state business earlier this week," Cohen said.
Sen. Johnson isn't in Kentucky for fun; he isn't there on vacation. He's serving our country in his position as a National Guard member. He, unlike Speaker Sviggum or Tim Pawlenty or, in all probability, you, has served his country in uniform. The problem isn't Sen. Johnson, the problem is that a courageous man like him is under the command of a man like Gov. Pawlenty. Don't ever, EVER, criticize him for serving this nation.
Minnesota Democrats Exposer, stop hating America.
There are conflicting media reports on what Johnson did in Kentucky. He did attend a ceremony for Pat McGowan who was honored by the National Sheriffs Association.
So Johnson was in Kentucky for some fun. I am ripping him for going to an awards ceremony for his buddy.
I don't hate America, so take a Midol and relax.
As someone who works with the National Guard and knows its flexibility for people who have issues importance to deal with, especially when it comes to our state as a whole, I would strongly suggest that the Guard would have let Dean Johnson reschedule whatever meeting he was attending in Kentucky.
Dean was there for both reasons mentioned. He was serving the country, which was the reason he made the trip in the first place. While he was there, his close personal friend also happened to be being honored as the National Sherriff of the Year. This is the same friend who was standing close by Dean's side through the personal tragedies he went through earlier this year--the deaths of his father and wife. Yes, you're correct he was in KY--serving the country and supporting the friend that has supported him through very difficult times.
Dear Dean Apologists - Even the man himself and his spokesman have admitted he was not out of town on any National Guard business.
They've dropped the story, so you can stop defending it now.
