JOHNSON WON'T GO TO CAMP RIPLEY
D-F-L Senate Majority Leader isn't ready to commit to a budget summit in Camp Ripley and instead suggests top leaders get together at the Governor's Mansion.
Johnson is the only one of four legislative leaders not to agree to the Camp Ripley budget meeting proposed yesterday by Governor Pawlenty.
The Legislature has until Thursday to get a budget done or some government services will cease.
Pawlenty says he wanted to move the talks far from the Capitol to get leaders out of the eyes of lobbyists, reporters and other influences. Source: Associated Press, June 27, 2005

Why doesn't Dean Johnson officially step down as Senate "Majority Leader"? He can't even take a leak without checking with the Urban Liberals that truly run the Senate Democrats Caucus.
Larry Pogemiller, Dick Cohen and Linda Berglin are clearly at the helm. Dean should just step aside instead of making an excuse every time something needs to get done. At least that way he wouldn’t have to live in fear of the wrath of Pogemiller anymore.
How is it that Gov. Pawlenty, Sen. Day, and Rep. Sviggum think they're able to conduct successful budget negotiations without having access to staff or the kind of resources that they would undoubtedly need? Why does Gov. Pawlenty want to seal them off at Camp Ripley, two and a half hours from St. Paul, where the deal would be executed and all the paperwork/staffing/information is?
