DORAN GOES NEGATIVE
I find it rather interesting that the candidate who is trying to potray himself as a Washington outsider is already running negative campaign ads.

No slow beginning for this campaign
Candidates normally kick off their campaign advertising by introducing themselves in a kind and gentle manner.
Not Kelly Doran, a Democrat who wants Minnesota’s open U.S. Senate seat. His first commercials were in the Red River Valley, harshly attacking Rep. Mark Kennedy’s vote in favor of the Central American Free Trade Agreement.
The sugar beet industry may have been the trade pact’s loudest opponent because its leaders fear Central American sugar will flood the United States market.
Doran is in what is expected to be a crowed Democratic field of candidates seeking to replace Sen. Mark Dayton, who is not running again. Kennedy appears likely to be the only serious GOP candidate. Source: Fargo Forum, August 15, 2005

To Republicans, this qualifies as "going negative." Of course, members of the GOP don't think that their voting record is fair game. Rep. Kennedy has such an odious record that he'll try to sidestep any public discussion of it. He understands that as soon as Minnesota learns what he supports, his chances of ever becoming Sen. Kennedy are over.
