Recently, a website called Checks and Balances posted informtion which claimed my identity had been exposed.
Minnesota Democrats Exposed (Exposed)
If you google the name Jerome Plagge you will find information on his activity in the blogsphere for Republican Senate District 63 (Richfield). There is also a link to a story from his blog about living a red life in a blue district on something called blogshares.com. As one delves a little deeper you see that in blogshares.com Minnesota Democrats Exposed is one of the most traded blog shares.
So recent information that has come our way is the Jerome Plagge is the person behind Minnesota Democrats Exposed. It will be interesting to see if now the anonymous source behind MDE either confirms or denies this idea. We encourage the folks at MDE to contact us and tell it how it is.
It seems Mr. Towle knows enough information to be dangerous, but not enough information to present a credible arugument.
I find it irresponsible for bloggers like DFL Governor and MN Publius to present Mr. Towle's investigative work as fact.
Minnesota Democrats Exposed may be published anonymously, but at least I am credible. Any blog that publishes Mr. Towle's information as fact without confirming it as fact is irresponsible.
Is there an incentive for Checks and Balances to expose Minnesota Democrats Exposed? I say "yes!"
Checks and Balances is old-school and I don't mean that in a good way. Years ago, Mr. Towle could publish his website when he wanted. The speed at which blogs publish information makes his website stale. He may post different information, but it's nothing special.
I couldn't think as slow as Mr. Towle if I tried.
By making a half-ass attempt to exposed my identity, Mr. Towle has destroyed what little credibility Checks and Balances had left.
Blogs are a threat to the old-school political websites like Checks and Balances. It's time for websites like Checks and Balances, that require you to register and pay for access to all of their features, to move to the right lane and let the blogs pass them by.
I would like to thank blogs like Kennedy v. The Machine, Bogus Gold, Kool Aid Report, and SD 63, for getting a laugh from Mr. Towle's investigative work.

UPDATE: I forgot to add that Mr. Towle was at one point in his life, a delegate/alternate in the Minnesota DFL's party organization. I wonder if Mr. Towle has every disclosed that fact to his readers.

What is Sarah Janacek going to do? Her policy is against reporting on the work of anonymous bloggers and yet 3 times this week the anonymous MDE has been a newsmaker. Time to give bloggers who choose to be anonymous their due...

What's your point? Norm Coleman was elected as Mayor of St. Paul twice as a DFLer. Didn't he head up some DFL Campaigns?
Not that I am defending Shawn Towle. One thing that he does have over you though is the fact that he works both sides of the fence looking for the scoop on Democrats and Republican alike. He also reports things other than scandals.
As for your true identity, when someone needs to know they will be able to find out who you are. Just remember... you walk a fine line, and I believe that what you say could be an avenue for someone to expose who you are.
Anti-Strib is on Blogshares, one author lives in Minneapolis with many liberal neighbors and the most the telling clue is that the guy has actually had a Republican fund raiser at his house!
He must be the MDE guy!
The question I have is whether your story on Hatch/Entenza is true. Has a non-anonymous blogger gotten confirmation from "house sources"?
After the Towles story came out, I thought it could have been retaliation against you for pissing off the DFL big guy attorneys with the Hatch/Entenza rumor.
But the next day you point to a DU thread on the topic as more evidence that the rumor is true. That doesn't build credibility.
All the things you say about Democrats aren't behaviors of democrats only - it's the way all too many political hacks behave - in both parties - and the behavior is appalling.
As a person who is very familiar with the capitol, 2 things I can offer.
1) Mr. Towle has 0 credibility among Senate/House members. Without that credibility, he won't get diddly for a "scoop". He has to rely on newbie staff members who get off on creating news.
2) The Entenza/Hatch story is 100% true. Obviously Republicans are going to say this is true, they disklike. However, call your local DFL state repres. or senator. Ask them. They'll tell you the truth. Why would DFL'ers be lying about this?

But yet your "investigative work", like the Hatch/Entenza, (which you still have not proven to have any shred of proof to it besides your own word about a rumor) is quoted on many of the MNGOP circle-jerk blogs, including RepublicanMinnesota, as fact.
I take blogs for what they are... gossip columns. MDE is the bland political version of CJ...
No politician will casually admit this to anyone...at this point. Sorry inside source.
What a shot at MDE. No one, except Towle, is as bad as CJ.
MDE is a gossip site. It's the same sort of thing I hear when I go to various events. I appreciate gossip - and sometimes it proves true, sometimes not.
