LEGISLATORS WANT HATCH INVESTIGATED

Inquiry sought into alleged Hatch threat
Two Republican legislators Tuesday asked Legislative Auditor James Nobles to investigate an assertion that Attorney General Mike Hatch threatened to take state business from the Minneapolis law firm Dorsey & Whitney because of its role defending Medica against a Hatch lawsuit.
Rep. Tim Wilkin, R-Eagan, vice chairman of the Legislative Audit Commission, and Rep. Joyce Peppin, R-Rogers, asked Nobles to follow up on testimony during the Medica trial last month. During the trial, Hatch was asked by Medica's outside counsel whether Hatch warned the lawyer's partner at Dorsey that it could lose some of its state's bond-writing business because of its representation of Medica. Hatch denied on the witness stand making a threat.
[Wilkin] and Peppin also asked Nobles to review the state's relationship with all outside law firms, including how they are selected and how much they are paid.
Hatch said his conversation with the Dorsey lawyer concerned his frustration about having to come to downtown Minneapolis for his pretrial deposition on the eve of the shutdown of state government earlier in the summer. He called Wilkin "a pest." Source: Star Tribune, September 7, 2005

Geez, T-Paw must be starting to worry about Hatch...
Is T-P still in the race I heard he is running for U.S Senate so he can run for President in 2008? Hatch is best man for job. I've been looking at the other guys in race and he's the only one who actually looks out for the people of Minnesota. He doesn't let PAC's control his moves. I didn't like him before, but now he has shown he's a real fighter. I like him a lot! Mike Hatch for Governor in 2006!
Hatch would be a credible candidate, but by no means is he the most threatening opponent in the DFL field. The best opponent would be an "outsider" running against the shutdown/gridlock in government. Think a populist DFL'er with Ventura-lite characteristics. A sitting Attorney General (regardless of party) is unlikely to fit that bill.
Given Pawlenty's approval numbers in Northern MN and with suburban women (relative to other GOP candidates) the likelihood of a Pawlenty defeat is minimal.
Focus your efforts on Klobuchar. She is going to win. Hatch, or whoever the DFL nominates for Governor is likely to lose....bigtime.
My main concern is education and healthcare. Pawlenty has made the educational system in Minnesota a joke. He refuses to support K-12 teachers and the University of Minnesota system. The cost of college education has tripled since he began his term as governor, simply put, it is unaffordable to attend the University of Minnesota. He refuses to fund indispensable research facilities resulting in highly qualified and inspirational professors leaving posts for academic institutions in other states that DO fund their Universities. Most importantly, he refuses to think outside the box. Whether it be healthcare reform or budgetary issues, Pawlenty uses the same, tired approach that ALL republicans adhere to. I want a governor with new ideas, one willing to take risks, one who actually CARES about Minnesota and a person who will speak their mind regardless of the outcome. I think the most qualified individual is Mike Hatch. He is a proven leader and, if nothing else, NOT afraid to think outside the box and speak his mind.
Pawlenty has made the educational system in Minnesota a joke.
Yeah, that evil Republican. He's breaking into every classroom and dumbing down the kids. Oh, that's right - he's not a teacher. I guess we can't blame teachers for education, now, can we? But we know that Pawlenty guy hates kids wants them all stoopid.
Does this guy actually read the DFL brochures, or does he digest them like food?
He refuses to support K-12 teachers and the University of Minnesota system.
Let's not let facts get in the way. Did you see the results of this years legislative sessionS? Schools got more, not less.
The cost of college education has tripled since he began his term as governor, simply put, it is unaffordable to attend the University of Minnesota.
Just not accurate. So if it cost $5000, as an example, in 2003 when he took office, it costs $15,000 in 2005? In the words of the judge on My Cousin Vinny, "are you on drugs?"
You might want to start fact checking before spewing Steve Kelly for governor propaganda.
If the U of M is so unaffordable, why does it have the second largest enrollment in the nation and why is the 5:30 p.m. Route 114C from East/West bank to Uptown packed through the aisles? (Packed, I might add, with students talking on $40/month cell phones or listening to $300 iPods - don't tell me they don't have any money!)
Mr. John Jordan-
I am afraid that you are correct with your estimation on the cost of enrollment at U of M, which is currently almost $18,000 for room and board per student. Furthermore, you will find that students also pay $500 per year to use the computers, which is not included in the $18,000. These figures are up 50% from four years ago. So I am sorry you were saying what? Oh that's right now your foot is in your mouth. The suburban schools have never had such low funding again supporting your claim that he's dumbing down, as you say, our children. Is he really breaking into every classroom? Or is that your sarcasm, which is a strong sign of insecurity and doubt.
By the by for the party opposite...enrollment is so high because it's one of the easiest schools to get into in Minnesota.

bmetzler:
The original post said that tuition has tripled since Pawlenty was elected. A 50% increase is a lot, lot less then a 300% increase.
If tuition is $18,000, that means that 4 years ago tuition would have been $12,000. However, if the tuition has tripled in that same period that means that tuition 4 years ago was $6,000.
So which who is correct? You, or the brainbat you are trying to defend? Oh, wait, never mind, that was you trying to change your story.

Brent-
I am so pleased that you can add! That's right 4 years ago tuition was $12,000, but I am sure you know that from looking at the U of M homepage. A 50% increase is huge especially since its students footing the bill. I’m not changing my story I was simply exaggerating to make a point that's what we educated people do, I exemplified the important fact that education is becoming unaffordable for students. Do you understand now? If not I can break it down more, however, you shouldn't be posting blogs if you don't comprehend. Furthermore, I am unaware of who I am defending, this so called brainbat, using your uneducated term. Please Brent I am waiting for your enlightening answer. Who, who is discobaby12 defending? Since I am she and don’t know, but you are not and seem to know I’m interested Brent truly interested in this conversation. If you can’t tell I am using sarcasm another term you should become familiar with.

bmetzler replies:
Who are you defending? Yourself silly! Most people do not debate by "making" up facts, then when called on them posting a different set of facts, and then saying that they were 'exaggerating.' Come on, that doesn't get you any respect making up stuff willy-nilly.
If you want to make a point, don't exaggerate first. Go straight to the facts. Then you won't have to change your story later.

Brent no offense to you, but I am not trying to get the respect of a blogger. I am not defending myself I was making a statement of my opinion that I believe the cost for students to attend college is outrageous and it's due to our governor taking back funding.

College is expensive…yeah, and?
Why do you think that the taxpayers should be paying for someone else to get a college education?
Why don’t you think that you shouldn’t be expected to foot most of your higher education bill?
Higher education is NOT a right, it is a privilege. SOME people should be given some financial assistance, but MOST people shouldn’t.
To quote Judge Smails from Caddyshack, "Well, the world needs ditch diggers too"
If the world just gives you stuff, you will NOT appreciate what you have. If the world makes you EARN what you have, you will appreciate it all that much more…at least that is how I feel about it after having to EARN my own money to pay for school.
That's where you’re totally wrong!! Education is NOT a privilege it's a right! Don't be ignorant! You support who you want, have your talks about health care, sex offenders whatever, but never say education is a privilege. You are a perfect example of what's wrong with society. My mother is an addict, my father left us when I was 3 years old. Why should I not get a higher education because of them! I worked harder then anyone in my school and got a scholarship to college, but only half of what I needed because of our current governor. I had to do things I am not proud of to obtain a higher education. KIDS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THAT!!!!!!! Don't be stupid shark bait!!!!!!!!
