MDE EXCLUSIVE: U OF M SPONSORS EVENT ON "THE REPUBLICAN WAR ON SCIENCE"
This is a blatantly political (anti-GOP) event that the U of M is sponsoring.
Can you imagine them hosting a lecture/book discussion on my upcoming the book, "The Democrat War on Unborn Children"?
Lecture by author and journalist Chris Mooney
Monday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
Johnson Room McNamara Alumni Center (click here for directions and parking)
Free and open to the public.
The Minnesota Journalism Center is sponsoring a lecture and book discussion by Chris Mooney. Mooney's book, "The Republican War on Science" (Basic Books), focuses on some of the policy positions taken by the Republican Party in relation to science. Mooney asserts that the GOP has elevated political positions over science and in particular that the current administration has increasingly politicized federal agencies with appointees that willingly embrace "pseudoscience."

I am not writing a book called "The Democrat War on Unborn Children"?, but if I was, the U of M would not sponsor a lecture.

How do you know the U wouldn't sponsor a talk on your book? And why do you think this event is unusual? The U of M sponsors events from all over the political spectrum.
Name one single Republican-oriented event that the school of journalism has ever sponsored.
Or, any that any subdivision of the University has ever sponsored.
And, more specifically, a Republican-oriented event that specifically attacks Democrats and doesn't just promote Republicans.
So they sponsor this for journalism students and STILL have the audacity to claim there is no liberal bias in the media? Outrageous!
It is a good thing we have places like Powerline, check them out today for info on the "crime" in New Orleans.
I will find a specific example later. I don't have the time right now. All I'll say is this: if the U is hosting this event and doesn't host (and HASN'T hosted) right-leaning events, don't you think that state Republicans would be screaming and crying, and would have been for some time?
I graduated from the U of M's Journalism School, and I can tell you firsthand that they don't have any Republican-oriented events. They certainly don't sponsor anything that attacks Democrats.

rew,
I have been to a couple Maclaurin events -- are you sure they are University sponsored other than the use of space?
Even if they are, I think the point being made if departmental sponsorship.
He said subdivision. I took that to mean group that is part of the overall university. I believe the Maclaurin applies. If not, I apologize...
I just graduated fromt he J school at the U. I believe they hosted Ken Starr. I am sure there were others I don't remember as well.
Ken Starr

Also, I'd imagine that the reason the School of Journalism doesn't mind holding Mooney's book signing is because he's a journalist and his book is factual.
I'd make a bet that your book, "The Democrat War on Unborn Children," would be more screed and less journalism.
Why don't you spend your time addressing the concerns Mooney has raised in his book rather than whining about his presence.
"Why don't you spend your time addressing the concerns Mooney has raised in his book rather than whining about his presence."
Exactly. Rather than take an intellectually lazy and ideological position by whining about partisan bias, take a look at the far right's present machinations. If you can honestly call current stem-cell research limits and the fomenting of ID creationism anything less than an assault on science, my hat's off to you for creative interpretation.
