What is this world coming to? I thought for sure that he would vote for a qualified conservative candidate. After all, Mark Dayton's prior record suggests that he is a principled and courageious politician. ummmm On second thought, I'm not surprised.
He said Roberts was "unsuitable for chief justice or any justice for the Supreme Court."
So it's not enough to say he doesn't want to vote for a conservative, he has to personally insult him.
"I am deeply concerned that he and President Bush's next nominee will shift the Supreme Court close to the extreme right for many years to come,'' Dayton added.
Elections mean things. Those elected to POTUS get to place their nominees on the Court. He ran saying he'd nominate conservative justices.
Apparently Dayton doesn't like our form of government or our Constitution. I have to suggest that the real "extremist" here is the one who rejects nominees, not because they're unqualified, but for purely political reasons.
Yes, but that same Constitution also gives the power to the senators to vote as they wish. I read the reason Roberts will get a no vote from some is because he was not open with enough answers during the judiciary hearing. It is probably more of a protest vote because the Republicans have enough votes if they all stick party line.
As a Democrat, I really do see much to fear from Roberts. I do wish the White House would release the papers that the Democrats have been asking for. It would clean up or prove true, concerns from both sides of the aisle. The fight will be over who fills O'Connor's robes.

I think Dayton should have voted to confirm Roberts.
That being said, he has nothing to lose by voting against Roberts - and he can play to the base because he's not running for reelection.
Mark Hanson from Log Cabin Republicans of MN PAC wrote Amy Klobuchar asking her how she would vote on this one. No answer.
fair point
