KELLY DORAN READY TO UNLEASH HIS MILLIONS?
Insiders are buzzing that failed U.S. Senate candidate turned gubernatorial candidate Kelly Doran may be planning to unleash a barrage of radio and TV advertisements next week.
The figure being tossed around is $500,000.
In Minnesota, a half-a-million dollar ad buy is pretty big. If he's buying ads in the Duluth, Rochester and Fargo/Moorhead markets, in addition to the Twin Cities, Doran's $500,000 could go a long way.
The big ad campaign would put a serious damper on Mike "Double Expletive" Hatch's first week in the race. Hatch is no doubt expecting a week-long love fest from the media types who have been dreaming of his entrance into the race. But we all know that $500,000 in ads will get a lot more attention that Hatch's non-surprise announcement that he's running for Governor (now for the third time).
Dane Smith reported on the Doran ad buy rumor in Thursday's Star Tribune:
"[Doran] Campaign officials refused to confirm rumors that he's poised to release a barrage of TV or radio ads in the next couple of weeks."
Side notes: Do you think that Doran Campaign Chief of Staff John Wodele is getting paid a percentage of the ad buy? And how big is Doran's campaign staff if his Campaign Manager goes by the title "Chief of Staff"?

I think this would be a great move by Doran. Money is obviously not a problem for him, so go for it.
Hatch's announcement will receive big news coverage and probably will be considered the start of the race, not just within the DFL but in the general sense as well.
Such a huge ad buy would obviously get attention, but it also plants Doran solidly in the 2 spot on the DFL side, ahead of Kelley, Lourey or whomever else.
Obviously, Doran would rather be in the number 1 spot, where Hatch will be, but this will make him the clear alternative and be a big boost to his campaign.
