KLOBUCHAR RESPONDS TO WETTERLING TROOP DEADLINE
Both Republicans and Democrats, members of the media, and a liberal special-interest group have speculated that Wetterling's run for the U.S. Senate may be short lived and that she may end up running for another office in '06.
But it is clear that Wetterling's campaign is currently controlling the agenda in the U.S. Senate race. Klobuchar may have more money and endorsements, but Wetterling now has Klobuchar responding to her message.
"A week ago, Wetterling called for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq by Thanksgiving 2006 - apparently becoming the first Senate candidate to set a deadline.
The move prompted Klobuchar's campaign manager, Jessica Vanden Berg, to say Sunday that Klobuchar wants the president to create a plan to bring U.S. troops home - barring that, Congress should require the Joint Chiefs of Staff to make a plan, including a timetable.
Wetterling's Iraq position may help her with liberal Democratic activists needed to win the party's endorsement, Jacobs said, but it could make her vulnerable to attacks from Republicans later in the campaign." Source: Associated Press, October 9, 2005

In my opinion, Klobuchar's campaign would respond to Wetterling's message only if they believed it was effective and was moving delegates from Klobuchar to Wetterling.

Actually, Klobuchar's position stated in the AP article is nearly word for word the same thing she said several weeks ago at the first DFL U.S. Senate debate. You can listen to Bell, Klobuchar and then Wetterling talk about Iraq here.
Here's the text of what Klobuchar said on Sunday September 18th:
"We need to establish a plan for withdrawing our troops and bringing them home safely. And if the administration isn’t going to do that, congress should pass a resolution and order the joint chief of staff to come up with that plan. They haven’t done that"
Of course, that's what you get from a blog that just reposts AP stories instead of doing any actual real reporting.
