WETTERLING ANNOUNCES SENATE CAMPAIGN, BUT HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?
Even at her official campaign announcement, supporters of Patty Wetterling are questioning how long she will be in the race:
"Despite her well-known name, [Patty] Wetterling is seen as the underdog in the DFL race. Even state Sen. Wes Skoglund, a Minneapolis DFLer who introduced her at the rally, said so. Her biggest hurdle is Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar, who has raised more money.
'Her biggest challenge is raising the money,' said Larry Jacobs, who teaches political science at the University of Minnesota. 'She's clearly going to be behind in terms of fund-raising. The question is, can she get ahead in terms of grassroots enthusiasm and loyalty? It's going to be a struggle for her.'" Source: Associated Press, October 9, 2005

The Republican Party of Minnesota went after Wetterling for advertsising on far-left liberal blogs, an issue first raised on Minnesota Democrats Exposed.

Patty Wetterling Creates A Losing Niche as Anti-War Candidate
Patty Wetterling recently called for all troops to be out of Iraq by Thanksgiving 2006, in a clear attempt to win over the Anti-War vote.
Wetterling has translated that call into a series of web advertisements on far-left liberal blogs such as Daily Kos, Smirking Chimp, Democratic Underground, The Raw Story and Crooks and Liars. Wetterling calls herself the "only candidate with the courage to set a date" in the ads and directs users to her campaign website.
Wetterling opposed the nomination of Chief Justice John Roberts on the grounds that he didn't meet the test of "a nominee that would follow in her tradition of protecting a woman's right to choose and uphold the laws that protect our freedoms and our civil rights."
In 2004, Wetterling was endorsed by MoveOn PAC, EMILY's List, a pro-abortion group, Human Rights Campaign, a gay rights group, and the Council for a Livable World, a liberal peace group, when she ran for Congress in the Sixth Congressional District. MDE, remember this post?
"I'm sure this will come as no surprise, but according to one of my real DFL insider friends, Patty Wetterling has all but announced that she'll be running for the 6th CD again because Klobuchar has proven to be much stronger than expected. Apparently Tinklenburg has agreed to get out of the 6th if Wetterling gets in, too."
I would be pretty upset at your 'insider' friend if I were you. I agree that it would be in the best interest of the DFL party if she would run in the 6th, but that dosen't look like it's going to happen. Klobuchar is the stronger candidate here, although both Wetterling and Klobuchar are beating Kennedy in the polls.
