LOUREY ANNOUNCEMENT FOR GOVERNOR
If you have a hour to waste, please read Becky Lourey's 15 PAGE announcement speech.
I will have a post later this evening on her speech.
Come on, 15 PAGES?!?

"In my administration, we will work to bring our state National Guard home to their families and communities where they belong."
Can anyone offer me an explanation as to what she's saying here?
Is she suggesting that the Minnesota National Guard will refuse to participate in the war?
Is she suggesting she'll use the bully pulpit of the Governors office to protest the war?
I heard her say on the radio a few minutes ago that she'd work to represent "all the people". If she does any of those things she sure wouldn't be representing me.
So - no spin, no personal shots - what does she mean?
I have no idea what she means. This is one of the most poorly written speeches I have ever read. What is she doing talking about nuclear waste? Where did that come from?
I feel sorry for the folks who had to listen to this...
A governor has the ability to work with other governors and go to D.C. and move things along.

The Republicans, adopting part of the Democratic plan to start bringing home our troops next year pased in the Senate today.
The American people are against the War in Iraq, and this President's decision to send us there by almost 2 to 1.
Becky Lourey's actions would seem to line up with the majority of the people. The 29% that still support the President and the War in Iraq, like you, are never going to change your minds. Maybe until its one of your Young'uns over there and you're questioning the rationale.
9/11 was not ever tied to Iraq.
Iraq only became part of the War on Terror after we got there and Al Queada begin flourishing there. No evidence of them there before that (plenty of evidence of them in Saudi Arabia- but we can't bomb Oil Buddies, can we?).
Becky knows this, the American public knows this and some of you will never get this.
What I do understand is that you aren't going to negotiate away terror.
I also understand terror thrives on poverty, opression and a state of fear.
Furthermore, I understand that liberty in the hands of free people is the most powerful force on earth and it will defeat all foes.
I understand that by using our military might to overthrow an oppressive regime, we can help oppressed people be free.
Lastly, I understand that by helping freedom take hold in Iraq, it can serve as an example for a region that gave birth to radical Islamic terrorism.
Don't accuse us of not understanding what is going on in the war on terror. We have the ability to look beyond the skin of our own nose and take a long-range view of our efforts, which, if you try it, will show you something much more than your own partisan wishes.
MPR says she only spoke for about half an hour. What's the big deal about fifteen pages?
So no one can explain her statement? Is that what I'm seeing?
Becky knows this, the American public knows this and some of you will never get this.
Apparently to some the majority is always right no matter what. I happen to believe that the majority can easily be duped as it has been here. There have been many instances throughout history when the majority believed something that was very, very wrong.
No right wingers were complaining when the majority was with them at the start of the war. Now that time has proven us right, the majority is with us and for an end to the war.
