THE MOWER COUNTY WITCH-HUNT TRIAL
This is a partisan witch-hunt, compliments of Mike Hatch, and I think Eibensteiner will be aquitted.
A few highlights from the article:
"Inquisitive grand jurors ask, but never get an answer, about why prosecutors seek an indictment concerning contributions to Republicans but take no action against nearly identical donations to Democrats" Source: Pioneer Press, November 7, 2005
"WHY NO DEMOCRATS?
During grand jury proceedings, grand jurors repeatedly asked why prosecutors did not seek to indict anyone in connection with the American Bankers donations to the Democratic campaign committee.
Flanagan said in 2003 that he did not pursue the Democratic donations because no one complained about them or produced any evidence comparable to the Eibensteiner thank-you note.
"What we have is a handwritten letter from Eibensteiner," Flanagan said recently. "We don't go knocking on every door, asking: 'Did you commit a crime?' "
Bjorndal, the complainant, testified last month that he later changed his mind and urged Flanagan to drop the investigation.
'Witnesses always want to back out,' Flanagan said of Bjorndal's change of heart. 'But if there's evidence of a crime, there's evidence of a crime.'
Mauzy, Eibensteiner's attorney, has repeatedly argued that Flanagan and Gray improperly singled out Eibensteiner for prosecution because he is Republican and ignored the Democratic donations. Both prosecutors denied they had any political motivation." Source: Pioneer Press, November 7, 2005

Your title doesn't back up your story.
Hatch didn't bring this on- you got proof of that, or is that too much to ask for from MDE?
A DFLer brought these charges to light. A regular citizen, not an elected or appointed official. It would be a non-factor if Ronnie Eibensteiner wasn't so stupid as to leave a paper trail, or create one in the first place.
How comes every one of the current indictments against Republicans are called partisan political ploys in way or another?
Were you guys not the party of personal responsibility?
So what if everybody does it- its wrong snad you got caught. So, step up.
if Ronnie Eibensteiner wasn't so stupid as to leave a paper trail
Obviously he's not as smart as you. Not many people are.
Were you guys not the party of personal responsibility?
And the Democrats must be the party of irresponsibility then, right?
(You left that hanging - I couldn't pass up a ball sitting on a T like that...)
Well John, I have worked in politics and did a boatload of fundraising. I haven't been indicted for shifting money, or bundling contributions. As been noted, it's done by both parties, but there are steps you take to stay legal and give the appearance of compliance. Ron violated both.
So, am I smarter than Ron? No. The guy is a self made venture capitalist. I've just been more cautious apparently than he has. It was a stupid mistake for someone like him- the head of a political party and cheif fundraiser in the party as part of his office. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Every once in a while I will throw out there the Republican monikers they like to use- not really as a label for themselves, but a description of what we are not, is 'party of personal responsibility, family values, traditional marriage etc'.
The problem is that they seem to get caught up o hang themselves with those very descriptions.
The republicans set the bar, for the Democrats, but fail to reach it themselves. Just in the last month, you've had charges brought to republicans caught up in racial tensions, marriage infidelity, child molestation, corruption, wife beating, sexual harassment amd money laundering.
So, your little play on word, is exactly what they want the voters to think, but they continue to give us the examples of hypocrisy.
Every time I offer you a chance to demonstrate that I'm wrong about DFL'ers having no sense of humor, you prove that I'm actually right.
I haven't been indicted for shifting money, or bundling contributions.
Not yet. Just wait til Jeff Johnson gets in and finds that Jimmy Carter bust you guys gave some donor. We'll see your mug shot in some distant MN County Courthouse.
(This is yet ANOTHER opportunity to prove I'm wrong on that sense of humor thing....)
You mispelled "Olmsted."
Jimmy who? Before my time. He was building houses when I came along, and beleive me on this, I am staying away from the fundraising section for a long time. Too many eyes watching now.
I got your humor, I wasn't sure if you caught the irony in it.
John, I have left myself open for some zingers too many times in my short MDE life to not see it coming.
No sense of humore? Who's funnier, AL Franken of Rush Limbaugh?
Hands down, Al. You know it. Admit it.
No sense of humore? Who's funnier, AL Franken of Rush Limbaugh?
Neither, IMO.
Limbaugh is a political commentary who tries to be funny - and often doesn't work.
Franken's a comedian trying to be a comedian and that doesn't work for me, either. :) He's too bitter and mean spirited to be funny.
