NICE TRY MN PUBLIUS
I love when bloggers use words without understanding the meaning. MN Publius is trying to take a long-distance shot at Cheri Yecke:
Governor Pawlenty and Cheri Yecke were not old friends and she was qualified for the position of Commissioner of Education. Democrats disagreed with Yecke's politics, but not her qualifications.
"Now the important things not to forget are: a) How much she sucked sucks and b) that Tim Pawlenty appointed her in an act of political cronyism."
Cronyism is "favoritism shown to old friends without regard for their qualifications, as in political appointments to office." Source: The Ameican Heritage DictionaryGovernor Pawlenty and Cheri Yecke were not old friends and she was qualified for the position of Commissioner of Education. Democrats disagreed with Yecke's politics, but not her qualifications.

Cronyism
One of the new DFL buzz words they're trying out.
Diversity - A program to hire staff for the Minneapolis Police Department. Depends entirely on color, race or sexual preference of new staff. Not successful, or relevant, to actually decreasing violent crime in Minneapolis at a time when violent crime in other major cities is declining.

Wow. MDE has a dictionary. Impressive.
Next time you might want to use 2 different dictionary source.
Dictionaries often have radically different definitions of words.
I hear that Britanica has a link to MDE on it's web dictionary entry for "partisan", "biased" and "foolish."

Cronyism... Just ask T-Paw and Dubya and they will give you a long list of people appointed to offices they know nothing about... "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job!"
Cronyism:
Would that be like appointing totally unqualified (different than being 'under-qualified') four of five people to say an agency that is in charge of federal emergencies and the security of the homeland? Or, the top seven people at the federal agency that is in charge of the safety of our food and drugs? Or how about trying to appoint ones terribly underqualified friend to the Supreme Court, while very qualified candidates are brushed to the side?
That the cronyism you talking about?
How about the kind that gets you access to the best schools based on your name? Or, the kind that funds your ever failing projects because they are friends with your dad? Or, when a group loans you money to buy into their project?
How's that?
By the way, Yecke was very qualified for the position.
IMO her politics were too overt for her to really be successful or garner support. It turned off too many people and probably held back some pretty good ideas.
She was not the first, or last Republicans to head the Education Department.
