SD 38 DFL'S ACTION ALERT PROMOTES VIOLATION OF STATE REFUND PROGRAM

I received a tip from a DFLer in SD 38 who is no longer supporting Coleen Rowley's campaign. They sent me a recent "action alert" from SD 38's DFL Party.
The action alert is reminding people to contribute before December 31 so their contributions qualify for the Minnesota Political Contribution Refund Program.
According to the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board, this program is available to "individuals who contribute to a registered political party or to a state level partisan candidate who has agreed to limit expenditures are eligible to apply for a refund of their contribution."
Why then is the SD 38 DFL telling people to contribute to Coleen Rowley's campaign? Rowley is a candidate for Congress and therefore contributions to her campaign do not qualify for the Minnesota Political Contribution Refund Program.

It doesn't indicate that by giving money to Collen Rowley you'll be elgible for the CRP.
It asks that you contact these candidates for support.
Is tomorrows one two punch clouding up your reading glasses?

The entire "action alert" is about the $50 rebate program. The entire thing. Then it lists four candidates where they'd like you to send money. To suggest that they didn't mean for Rowley to be part of that is ridiculous.
While it's probably not going to get anyone tossed in jail (maybe the Mower County prosecutor would have been interested had this been a Republican "action alert"), it clearly is inaccurate and misleading. I can't speak to whether or not it's intentionally misleading or not.
Like usual, MDE tries to manufacture news by leaving out important details. SD 38 sent out a correction to this email with letters so huge you couldn't miss it less than two hours after the original email went out.
Yet nearly three days later MDE puts up this incomplete story proving he's either a sloppy reporter or really doesn't care about the truth.
I notice "the Ox" didn't send out any corrections about his doctored photos in his Senate race. Perhaps that's why he lost by nearly 20 percentage points in an area that's traditionally Republican.
DeKline: As I wrote in my post, I was forwarded this email from a DFLer. I am not on the list it was sent out on, nor did I receive any corrected email.
Please send me the corrected email and I will post the update. I'm fair. If they sent out a correction as you claim, I will post it.
If you want to add my email to the list so I can get all future emails sent to me directly I would appreciate it. This would prevent future lapses in my reporting.
But for some reason, I don't think you will add my email address.

So even SD 38 realizes they were telling people that money given to Rowley would qualify for the refund program.
St Paul DFL'er - will you, too, be retracting your comment defending it?
Nope.
