RON CAREY: "THE TRUTH IS ON OUR SIDE"
This morning, I had the privilege of attending a blogger breakfast organized by the Republican Party of Minnesota. While I am not happy about being out of the "blogger" closet, I did enjoy the meeting.
Chairman Ron Carey, Executive Director Ben Golnik, Communications Director Mark Drake and Research Director Gina Countryman represented the State Party. I will let the other bloggers who participated at the breakfast determine if they wish to speak discuss their attendance.
This was an "on the record" meeting with Chairman Carey and staff and it was a great opportunity for bloggers to ask tough questions. I know the capitol press interviews Chairman Carey on a regular basis, but for Carey to make himself available to bloggers for an hour and ½ interview was impressive and greatly appreciated.
Every question was fair-game and Chairman Carey provided direct answers.
The goal of this meeting was not to get bloggers to be a tool for the Republican Party of Minnesota. As Chairman Carey said, "we can’t tell you what to write."
But today's meeting was about the Republican Party of Minnesota building a relationship with a growing and powerful communications medium.
Its clear Chairman Carey reads blogs on a daily basis. He was knowledgeable about the technology behind blogs and respects the work done by bloggers.
The Republican Party of Minnesota is not going to trust just the MSM to communicate our message. As Chairman Carey said "the truth is on our side" and he and the staff will use every available outlet to let the voters of Minnesota know this.
I can't speak with any authority, but I don't think many party chairmen/women in other states have provided this level of access to bloggers.
I tip my hat to Chairman Carey, Ben Golnik, Mark Drake, Gina Countryman, and the rest of the Republican Party of Minnesota for this morning's breakfast.

So how did it feel to finally meet the RPM leadership?
I didn't get a chance to say hi this morning, but hopefully we'll bump into each other again, perhaps at another similar function.
Perhaps you might want to tell Carey that GOP Newsline should be double checked prior to being sent. I got a notice in my email today that a State of the Union party would be held at GOP Headquarters January 24, 2006.
Should I feel insulted that Lloydletta's Nooz wasn't invited?
