UPDATE: INTERESTING DEVELOPMENTS IN SD 57 #2
I received a tip over a week ago about Eileen Weber's new role as a community columnist. Her days of writing for the Hasting Star Gazette are over now that she is a candidate for the House of Representatives.

Eileen Weber’s true intentions
A few months back, I questioned the need to have a "Community Columnist" who used her pulpit not to discuss interesting things in the community, but to solely bash Republicans. After reading her latest column -- which took yet another swipe at Republicans -- and doing a little research, I think I've discovered the reason why.
Ms. Weber, our alleged community voice who had been serving as Democratic congressional candidate Coleen Rowley’s field director, recently filed to run as -- you guessed it -- the Democratic challenger to Rep. Denny McNamara in District 57B. In other shocking news, water is wet and the sky is blue.
It is clear Ms. Weber has been using her "Community Column" to further her own political aspirations, and that the Hastings Star Gazette took the bait. It is my hope that because she has now registered a campaign committee for state office, she will no longer be allowed to spread her partisan drivel and jaded outlook on life in the pages of this newspaper. Or at the very least, give Rep. McNamara and any other announced candidates the same column opportunities you have been giving Ms. Weber.
A partisan shill masking her true intentions -- stop the presses!
Editor's note: Eileen Weber was a community columnist for the Star Gazette. Last week, she announced a run for the Minnesota House of Representatives. She will no longer have a column in the Star Gazette. Source: Hastings Star Gazette, January 12, 2006

Hey Mike--
So figuring your position as a former communications director you should know that Jason Wenisch (who wrote this letter, although you fail to note that... I wonder why?) is a communications staffer for the House GOP caucus. What's more, is that Jason doesn't note it either. So they're going to rail on Eileen for supposedly using this column, but still not reveal their very real connection to the situation.
I smell bullshit, if this is the best that the GOP can do under can't do-Carey then you need a lot more than a new ED to get back on your feet.
