WETTERLING SAYS SHE'S MET WITH HATCH ABOUT BECOMING RUNNING MATE
It was a classy move by Patty Wetterling to campaign for herself at a memorial service for former U.S. Sen. Eugene McCarthy at St. John's University.

Child safety advocate Patty Wetterling, who dropped out of the U.S. Senate race last Friday, said Monday that she has met with Attorney General Mike Hatch about being his running mate in the governor's race.
But Wetterling, of St. Joseph, also told the St. Cloud Times for a story for Tuesday's editions that she is still considering several options for public office including not running at all.
"The world is full of possibilities," Wetterling said.
Wetterling spoke to the newspaper at a reception after a memorial service Monday for former U.S. Sen. Eugene McCarthy at St. John's University. She withdrew from the race for the Democratic nomination for Senate on Friday and endorsed Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar, who was also at Monday's memorial.
Hatch and Wetterling have known each other since Wetterling son, Jacob, was abducted near his home in St. Joseph in 1989. She told the Times she had talked to Hatch since making her announcement Friday.
"He's very sharp," Wetterling said. "He is a great politician."
While Wetterling is considering a run for lieutenant governor this year, she also is being urged by some people to take another run at what is now an open seat in the 6th Congressional District.
Wetterling lost that race to Republican Mark Kennedy in 2004, but he is now running for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate. Elwyn Tinklenberg, a former mayor of Blaine and former state transportation commissioner, is the only declared Democrat in the 6th District race.
Wetterling told the St. Cloud Times she spoke briefly with Tinklenberg Saturday at a party meeting and plans to meet with him again about the congressional race. Tinklenberg said last week that Wetterling had assured him repeatedly that she would stick with the Senate race.
"At this point, I am gathering information and taking a look at my life," Wetterling told the newspaper.
The Times also reported that Wetterling also would not rule out a run for Secretary of State against Republican Mary Kiffmeyer, and that she said she has several offers for jobs in the private sector. She said she has not had a paycheck in 2 years. Source: Associated Press, January 24, 2006
