KENNEDY CAMPAIGN: KLOBUCHAR TRYING TO DEFLECT ATTENTION AWAY FROM RISING CRIME IN MINNEAPOLIS

Launches False Attack on Kennedy’s Pro-Law Enforcement Record
Amy Klobuchar today leveled another false attack on Mark Kennedy, this time by misleading Minnesotans about his strong record in Congress of supporting local law enforcement.
"In an unfortunate episode of playing politics with law enforcement, Ms. Klobuchar doesn’t have her facts right," said Heidi Frederickson Press Secretary for Mark Kennedy 06. "This smacks of a desperate attempt to deflect attention away from the rising crime rate in Minneapolis while Ms. Klobuchar has been busy campaigning across the state."
Charging that Kennedy "voted against the increase" in the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program, Klobuchar ignored the facts yet again:
Kennedy supported an effort by Rep. Dave Reichert to increase funding for Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) programs by $78.3 million. (<http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D?d109:9:./temp/~bd417X>::)
Kennedy supported an effort by Rep. Brian Baird to increase funding for the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) by $10 million in addition to seeking increased funding for the Drug Enforcement Administration by $10 million. (<http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D?d109:10:./temp/~bd417X>::)
Kennedy sponsored an amendment with Rep. Lee Terry in an effort to fund Byrne-JAG grants at $634 million, an increase of $286 million. The National Narcotics Officers Associations Coalition endorsed this proposal. (<http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?r109:1:./temp/~r109c5Vtni:e150388>:)
Kennedy authored a letter with Rep. Terry to the Conference seeking funding for Byrne-JAG grants at the $900 million level - the highest level ever funded.
"Because Amy Klobuchar has nothing to offer voters in the way of real solutions to the problems facing Minnesota voters, she continues with the national Democrats' strategy of attack, attack, attack," added Frederickson. "It's sad and Minnesota voters deserve better."

Or maybe he voted against it, before he voted for it.
