QUESTIONS ABOUT TINKLENBERG'S LETTER
According to Checks and Balances, there is growing controversy over a letter that was distributed by John Wodele on behalf of Elwyn Tinklenberg's campaign.
Now some of questions raised by Checks and Balances could have been avoided if Shawn Towle would have stayed for Tinklenberg's press conference and read his release. Towle left the event as soon as Wetterling got done hugging everyone who attended the event on her behalf. His quick departure is clearly reflected in his one-sided writing.
The concerns about the letter is whether McCollum and Sabo have endorsed Tinklenberg's candidacy. Towle spoke with representatives of Sabo and McCollum and reported they have not endorsed Tinklenberg.
In my opinion, this is a letter of support and endorsement.
But Towle also questions the authenticity of the letter, claiming it may be a version not signed by McCollum, Sabo, Peterson, and Oberstar.
I have no reason to believe the letter distributed by Wodele is not authentic. While Towle had time to call McCollum and Sabo's office, he apparently didn't have time to call Wodele to discuss the issue. Calling Wodele and verifying which version of the letter was being distributed wouldn't have provided Towle the opportunity to challenge the letter's accuracy on behalf of Wetterling's campaign.
Now if McCollum and Sabo did agree to this letter, it's ridiculous they are now trying to claim they didn't endorse Tinklenberg.

Why the undated letter? Tinklenberg was just tacky trying to use Wetterling's press conference to promote his own campaign.
On another topic, I called in to Air America today when Mike Hatch was on the air - I told the screener I wanted to ask Mike Hatch whether he was using taxpayer funds to campaign - since his employees accompany him to union screenings, and Lori Swanson - the state solicitor general represented Hatch at the DFL feminist forum. They would not let me on the air to ask the question. Mike Erlandson was the host.
Did you call and verify the letter? Or are you just making comments to stir controversey? Follow your own advice, maybe?
Shawn Towle verified the letter. I have no reason to disbelieve him. The letter that Brodkorb posted was interesting because it was undated.
Tinklenberg's email (which Towle posted) claiming the support of Tom Daschle (misspelled) and Betty McCollum (misspelled) was also interesting.
Towle did not verify the accuracy of the letter. He did the exact opposite.
Towle claimed he called Sabo's and McCollum's offices to ask if they were endorsing Tinklenberg - and they said they had signed the letter when Tinklenberg was unopposed. Doesn't it seem strange to you that the letter lists the names of the representatives, but is unsigned and undated?
It's also interesting that Mike Hatch was the source of the speculation that Patty was going to run as Lt Governor with him.
