THEY SAID IT: TOM BAKK SAYS MIKE HATCH WON’T GET THE DFL ENDORSEMENT
"The Cook state senator also said he has told Hatch that Lourey would be formidable. 'The last time I talked to Mike (Hatch) about three months ago I told him, 'Don't ignore Becky Lourey.' 'He pretty much blew me off. I think she'll get the endorsement at the June convention,' [DFL State Senator Tom] Bakk said." (Bill Hanna, “Oberstar Endorses Lourey for Governor," Mesabi Daily News, February 23, 2006)

This is the same Senator Bakk that freaked out in 04 becuase he thought a lack of Kerry lawn signs was going to hurt the DFL on the Range. In the end, Kerry ended up doing very well in Duluth and the Iron Range. He was wrong then and he will be proved wrong again.
Mike Hatch is leading the race for Governor according to every available indicator.
The thing is, Bakk is backing Kelly Doran. He's got no ax to grind. Hatch being dismissive is dangereous. People were dismissive of him in 1998 and he went on to take the office without the endorsement. I wish Hatch would start thinking more politically when he open his mouth. That support is huge but it far from being solid.
The 800 pound gorilla did very poorly at the straw poll. If Hatch is doing so well on the range, how come Oberstar endorsed Becky Lourey?
