A WRESTLER DIDN'T GET IN FREEMAN'S WAY
Mike Freeman announced his campaign to succeed Amy Klobuchar as Hennepin County Attorney. Freeman was the Hennepin County Attorney until 1998, when he ran for governor.
Freeman likes to this his candidacy for governor went farther than it did:
"'The only reason I left was to be governor, and a wrestler got in the way,' said Freeman, who lost to Jesse Ventura. 'I've been wanting to come back ever since.'" Source: Star Tribune, February 6, 2006
Mike Freeman didn't lose to Jesse Ventura. Freeman and his running mate, Representative Ruth Johnson, were defeated in the primary in 1998 by Attorney General Skip Humphrey and Senate Majority Leader Roger Moe.
Humphrey lost to Ventura. Freeman's campaign didn't make it past the primary.

Excellent point. He's trying to misrepresent Jesse's role. I don't understand the spell Mr. Moe seems to still hold over democrats in Minnesota. He's been out for so long yet they still avoid any bad light for him. Moe insisted in one primary that a woman couldn't win, so they gave Moe the endorsement, and then he goes out and promptly loses.
A careful, intelligent reader will note that Mr. Freeman didn't say "I lost to Jesse Ventura." The author of the Star Trib article made that mistake. Even as quoted, Mr. Freeman's remark should interpreted as what it is: a quote. As any reasonable person knows, quotes can be taken out of context. Because this website supports the practice of speculation, I'll speculate that Mr. Freeman was making light of his unsucessful attempt at running for governor, and probably made a subsequent comment about losing to Humphrey that was not printed in the Star Trib.
