DEAN JOHNSON ON "SANDING OFF" THE TRUTH
"'I will admit the words that I said on that tape were poorly chosen,' [Dean Johnson] said. 'They were not totally accurate.' But Johnson said he did not 'lie' about the matter. To lie requires 'intent to deceive,' he said, while 'embellishment is sanding off of the truth.'" (Bill Salisbury, "Tearful Senate Leader Sorry For Supreme Court Gay Marriage Flap," Pioneer Press, March 17, 2006)

Love the new ads...but you do realize right that the three ads I just saw on your website..as well as many other people are for:
1) A leadership PAC for Democrat Mark Warner
2) "Virginia is for Hillary"
3) Steve Westly for Governor...also a Democrat.
What can I saw...keep up the good work? :)

I think it's sad to see a minister of the gospel using such rationalization to call a lie something other than a lie. Of course there was "intent to deceive". He had an agenda of trying to convince others that there was no need for the marriage amendment because the judges wouldn't over turn the current law. Since the judges never said that, and since he was speaking on behalf of his political belief against voting on the amendment (and allowing others to vote on it), there is no way to conclude that this was anything other than a premeditated attempt to deceive.
Bottom line, this person who is a Pastor of a church, a person who represents himself as one who not only believes the Bible but preaches it's precepts to others, did indeed lie. Worse, he's defending the lie.
There is no such thing as a "white lie". A lie is an intentional attempt to ask someone else to believe something you know not to be true.
Dean Johnson can no longer be believed in anything he says. His credibility, lacking as it has always been, is now totally gone and he should resign. But more important than resigning, he needs to repent of his sin, first to his Maker, then to those he lied to.
