DFL CALLS INFORMATION ON VOTERS "THE BASIC CAPTIAL OF ANY POLITICAL COMMITTEE"
Pg. 3 of the manual lists examples of data to track. This list includes "personal and organizational."
I am shocked to learn about Wellstone Action! is teaching people how to track "personal" information about people.
Based on their reaction to the not-yet released CD from the Republican Party of Minnesota, I am equally shocked to learn the Minnesota DFL uses an online system to mantain voter information.
The DFL even has the nerve to call lists containing information on voters "the basic capital of any political committee."
"The DFL utilizes an online system to maintain this information. Each unit chair can obtain a username and password and instruction on accessing and using the database by contacting Erin Frautschy at erin@dfl.org or 651-251-6321. Chairs that do not use computer or internet technology can designate another officer to have database access. To designate someone other than themselves to get the username and password, the chair should contact Erin with the person’s name, office and contact information. Once this is done the designated user can get the ID, password and instructions. The database is a very useful tool that helps keep lists, the basic capital of any political committee, organized and up to date. It is important to have at least one officer who has technology skills and is responsible to get the information from the database and to keep information on the database updated. The database is maintained and updated by the DFL Staff, and lists, information, and functionality are always being added to the system." Source: GUIDE FOR NEW LOCAL UNIT CHAIRS AND LEADERSHIP

The difference of course being that the DFL didn't distribute a cd where you could enter your personal information that was grossly unprotected.
I don't think that people are concerened about the Indepedent Republican Party of Minnesota getting personal information, but rather leaving that information so easily compromised.
Where do you think this stuff comes from? Public databases like the Secretary of State's voter file, commercial databases that anybody can buy, and so on. Of course databases are the basic capital of any political committee, and what public lists have to do with the Republican CD is hard for me to see.
Wellstone Action is not the DFL. They are an independent group. Anyone who takes Wellstone Action materials and attributes them to the party is a "liar liar pants on fire."
