EARTH TO POLINAUT #5 (AND PIM)
More sloppy reporting from Politics In Minnesota:
"Kudos to MPR's Online editor Bob Collins who seems to be breaking what we predict will be a larger story - the release of a CD from the state Republican Party on the Gay Marriage issue. Collins, with the help of some readers, has discovered that the CD captures and reports information once the recipient puts the CD in their personal computer. In the world of privacy concerns and party shots, we predict that this piece will be an immediate issue in the session, and that it could carry through the campaign." Source: Politics In Minnesota Weekly Report, March 1, 2006
The CD has not been released. MPR was given a BETA version of the CD. The Republican Party of Minnesota doesn't even have the final copy of the CD.
Even Polinaut got this right:
"The [Republican Party of Minnesota ] Party hopes to get the CDs from the vendor on Friday and hopes to mail them out on Friday."
I wouldn't want the facts to get in the way of PIM's reporting.

If people aren't suppposed to draw conclusions from this sample, what's the point of handing it out?
"Here's a beta of the latest version of Microsoft Office. But the end version will be completely different, so don't draw any conclusions from it!"
Ah, so it was...all a big mistake? No surprises there.
From the Republican Party of Minnesota Platform:
N. Protecting personal privacy by prohibiting the use of social security numbers for any purpose other than social security identification and prohibiting the collection or release of any personal financial, medical, or other private information by anyone without the express consent of the person involved.
As they did not have a disclaimer on the packet that they gave out, are they or are they not in violation of their own party platform?
Care to stop spinning long enough to answer?
Beta versions are not final and everyone with a brain knows they are subject to change before the "Gold Master." Sometimes a company won't even put a feature in anything until the GM because they don't want anyone to know about it. I'm sure the party will fix whatever problems exist and this really isn't a story yet, more the result of some blogger wanting to make a name.
