ONLY IN MINNESOTA...
would the endorsement of a candidate for the U.S. Senate by the senior U.S. Senator be such a controversy. In most states, candidates in contested primaries would openly welcome an endorsement from a U.S. Senator. But not Minnesota. Dayton's endorsement means nothing to Klobuchar.

Sen. Dayton's endorsement of Klobuchar is questioned
Rep. Kennedy's campaign raised the question, and Dayton's and Klobuchar's people answered it, sort of.
A bit of a ruckus has been kicked up over whether U.S. Sen. Mark Dayton has actually endorsed DFL Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar for his Senate seat, and why, if he has, she hasn't acknowledged it.
The campaign for Republican U.S. Rep. Mark Kennedy has been issuing press releases chiding Klobuchar for not acknowledging or celebrating the liberal Dayton's backing and surmising that it's part of a pattern in which "she's been silent about lots of issues."
But Dayton and Klobuchar say there simply has been no formal, official endorsement yet.
Kennedy's line of attack is based in part on a Star Tribune story that said Klobuchar had earned the "official blessing" of Dayton. Here's what Dayton said to reporters on the day after the DFL precinct caucuses, in which Klobuchar scored a sweeping victory over Ford Bell.
"I did talk with Ford Bell and I told him I intended to support Amy Klobuchar."
Later that day, Dayton spokeswoman Semonti Mustaphi was asked to clarify whether Dayton's comments were an endorsement, an informal endorsement or not an endorsement at all. She said: "He has only indicated his intention. He hasn't made any formal announcement yet. His comments today were simply an intent to support Amy Klobuchar."
Ben Goldfarb, her campaign manager, said she "has been crystal clear on the issues and will continue to be so ... and we look forward to having Senator Dayton's formal endorsement." Source: Star Tribune, March 15, 2006
