ELLISON DEFENDED JACKSON AND ATTACKED MIAR
By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 5, 2006
The MSM has finally began to focus on Keith Ellison's extremism.
"In his letter, [Keith] Ellison also addressed a matter involving Joanne Jackson, who in 1997 headed the group Minneapolis Initiative Against Racism. She had been quoted as calling Jews 'among the most racist white people,' and Ellison was involved with a group of black leaders who defended her.
'I believe that Ms. Jackson's alleged remark was clearly bigoted, discriminatory, inappropriate, and even ridiculous,' Ellison said in the letter, adding that while some leaders defended her comments, he 'spoke out in favor of increased dialogue between the Jewish and African-American communities.'" But Ellison defended Jackson AND tried to shift the concerns to the actions of the board:
"In 1997, Kieth Ellison came out in support of Joanne Jackson. Jackson was the executive director of the Minneapolis Initiative Against Racism, and was threatened with losing her job for saying 'Jews are the most racist white people I know.' Ellison said that the board’s first initiative against racism should 'be directed at itself, or at least the 11 board members who voted to dismiss Joanne Jackson' for her comments." "About a dozen supporters of Farrakhan, including Spike Moss, Mahmoud El Kati and Keith Ellison, went to the MIAR meeting because the board was considering whether to reprimand Jackson. An earlier attempt to fire her failed 11-11 in a secret ballot.
Ellison, an attorney who used his religious name of Muhammad in speaking to the board, read a statement supporting Jackson." Source: Star Tribune, February 3, 1997
