MDE FROM THE ARCHIVES: MATT ENTENZA THE COLLEGE YEARS
By Michael Brodkorb | June 13, 2006
"'Homecoming in the traditional sense, with a homecoming queen and a formal dance is sexist and discriminatory in many ways,' MaCalester Community Council President Matt Entenza said, 'and therefore isn't appropriate for Macalester.'" Source: Mac Weekly, September 24, 1982.
I want to thank the dedicated reader of Minnesota Democrats Exposed who sent me this article.

Michael, where is your convention recap that is going to “suprise some folks?”
June 13th, 2006 at 9:27 AM
So it’s between Jeff Johnson, a Scanadinavian-American from Detroit Lakes, and Matt Entenza, a lefty from MaCalester who thinks traditional college homecomings are evil.
Of the above two, who would Hubert Humphrey be more likely to identify with?

Are you kidding me? I suppose this guy is against apple pie, baseball, the flag and motherhood too. Apple pie requires apples which are often sprayed with pesticides. Baseball players, at least in the field, don’t wear helmets, the flag is a symbol of jingoism and repression, and motherhood. . . well motherhood is all about defined gender roles. What is happening to my DFL?

So what happened to that DFL Convention roundup?

Why are you so afraid Michael?
June 13th, 2006 at 10:05 AM
Seriously. There is plenty of ammo out there on Matt Entenza. The fact that you are using something this worthless leads me to believe that you are pretty bad at your day job.

First you get Keith Ellison’s comments from the 1990s, now you get Entenza comments from the 1980s.
What’s next? Are you going to post some fantastic new evidence that Mike Hatch said “Republicans are poopyheads” when he was 5 years old?
June 13th, 2006 at 10:28 AM
From 1982? Come on. We all said/did things in college we look back at and say, “huh? What was I thinking?”
June 13th, 2006 at 11:09 AM
Mike, great job exposing the fact that Entenza
and the other DFL Hacks as the GOOFBALLS and
HYPOCRITES that they are now trying to fool the
public into thinking they aren’t !!

“Are you going to post some fantastic new evidence that Mike Hatch said “Republicans are poopyheads†when he was 5 years old?”
Didn’t he say that in his acceptance speech?
June 13th, 2006 at 12:24 PM
“Didn’t he say that in his acceptance speech? ”
In the first hour, or the second hour?
June 13th, 2006 at 12:32 PM
“From 1982? Come on. We all said/did things in college we look back at and say, “huh? What was I thinking?†”
I remember saying things like “MaCalester is full of rich spoiled liberal wienies”. Oh, wait, I still feel that way.

“Didn’t he say that in his acceptance speech? â€
Nope, that was Pawlenty.
June 13th, 2006 at 1:12 PM
Let me clarify in case anyone is confused…
It was Pawlenty with the name calling…
abortion promotin’… uh huh… sure… I certainly run around trying to convince all pregnant women to get abortions…
June 13th, 2006 at 2:04 PM
Lapis, actually the Dems (for the most part) tried to block the Womens Right to Know law. They didn’t want pregent women to be informed of options to abortion and be told about groups that will assist them.
I know rather liberal, pro-choice graduates from Duluth East high school. Even these people condemned the school consolers for promoting abortions and not telling of other options when pregent students came in. They said the school administration didn’t want Duluth East to be known as the school with the pregent students (that was the Duluth Denfield), so they would automatically set up abortions when students came in looking for help.

[...] I can hear Entenza chanting "Hey, hey, ho, ho, this homecoming queen (or king) has got to go!" or "Homecoming is a crime, the King and Queen should be doing time!" posted by Michael B. Brodkorb at 3:38 pm [...]

Dave,
The Women’s Right to Know law has wrong information in it. I personally object to the law. It states that the doctor must tell the woman considering an abortion that there is a link between abortion and breast cancer. This is not true. It is spreading FALSE information. The Right To Know law also only provides money to pregnancy crisis clinics that DO NOT talk about abortion. The Right to Know law also forces information about “organic pain” which is scientifically unproven.
The so-called Women’s Right to Know spreads misinformation and that is why many pro-choice people do not support it and have in fact attempted to block its passage and amendments.
Now, I will go on to say that promoting abortion in the hopes of maintaining a “good name” is also wrong. If that is truly the way that Duluth operated, then they should be publicly taken to task and those counsellors should be terminated.
A woman/girl should be informed of all of her options when she seeks counselling and information on how to deal with an unexpected pregnancy. The information needs to be balanced and truthful, allowing the woman to make her own decision without interference or influence from outsiders.

Lapis, the DFL is so extreme on abortion that Dean Johnson and Linda Berglin pulled spending on health care from the omnibus spending bill this session because they were so afraid that anti-abortion language would be added to the bill. In other words, they gave up spending more money on health care for poor people because they are so beholden to pro-choice interests. If that’s not promoting abortion, I don’t know what is.
