MN GOP: “INDEPENDENT LEADER” TIM WALZ RAISES CAMPAIGN CASH AT LAVISH RESIDENCE OF ANGRY LIBERAL GARRISON KEILLOR

By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 21, 2006

"'Independent leader' Tim Walz’s decision to hold a lavish fundraiser at Garrison Keillor's plush residence tonight underscores just how out of step Walz is with the common-sense residents back home in the First District on issues like abortion and gay marriage.  While Walz may enjoy his wine and brie tonight, residents of the First District will take note of his new far-left friends." – Ron Carey, Chairman of the Republican Party of Minnesots

"Independent Leader" Tim Walz Teams Up With Increasingly Vitriolic Garrison Keillor:

Lavish residence? As distinct from the modest ramblers where Dick Cheney and others go for their fund raisers?

    Come on!

Like Mark Kennedy pretending that the 7 percent of the time he voted against the president makes him a political maverick, so much so that he can have Dick Cheney, Tom Delay and Laura Bush raise all of his money for him.

What the hell was that old saying about people in glass houses?

    Angry liberal…abortion…gay marriage…far-left…wine and brie…

I’m pretty sure you could replace Ron Carey with a computer that spits out random epithets that Republicans have for Democrats and not notice any change at all.

It’s so nice to see that Republicans are running on the important issues.

Wow, this string of comments must be sort of in line with the “Angry Liberal” reference in the original post? This guy Walz can host a fundraiser at any Liberal’s home he wants as far as I’m concerned, but he cannot design an entire campaign around the facade that he is “independent.”

Of course, I forgot: the Hollywood elite are the “heart and soul” of this country, so, naturally, the rural folks in the 1st District will hold the same values as the blue-blood, wine-and-cheese crowd that the “independent” Walz mingled with at DFL benefactor Garrison Keillor’s home.

    wtm-

Rural people eat wine and cheese too. In fact, they make it. In an economy that is almost as much driven by tourism as agriculture, and anyone can subscribe to Martha Stewart and recieve it regularly and reliably in their mailbox (if their not recieving the Food Channel on cable) small towns have wine-and-cheese events to attract interest to local arts and crafts, political and social concerns, and even hare-brained Republican economic development scams pitched in small town chambers of commerce.

I think you should stick to fighting fictious small town strip clubs (in areas that culdn’t economicaly support them anyway), because if wine and cheese consumption is your metric for success in the culture wars, you’ve lost.

Mr. Tim Walz also enjoyed coffee at my home–a very modest split level entry in a rural township. My experience with Tim over the last ten years (as a friend and teacher of my children) indicates he spends a great deal of time with those who hold my values–respecting others, caring for humanity, supporting veterans, loving family, and helping children grow to be citizens with integrity and civility.

I have not known Tim Walz very long, Sandra, a year and a half now. Yet, I have found him to be very grounded, in touch with the world around him, knowledgeable of the issues, concerned for the people in the 1st District.

I spoke with his mother at the State Fair in August when Tim gave an address there to a very large crowd. His mother said that it had always been Tim’s passion to be a servant to others, as he has been all his life so far. This is a man who will never forget who he works for should he be elected in November.

And so what if someone like Garrison Keillor wished to hold a fundraiser for Tim Walz?? It’s okay for the Republicanto call out the big guns for their respective candidatess, charge hundreds of dollars for a donation to get in and/or pay $1,000 for picture taken togehter? The Double Standard for one Party and not the other stinks.

I believe Mr Walz has fallen in love with the power of Washington. He doesn’t answer e-mail/phone calls etc. when you challenge him. He has one issue that fooled way too many in Southern Minnesota “I support guns”. Other then that, he is becoming way out of touch with the core values of his district. We are farmers/blue collar workers with one metropolitan area (Rochester).

We can’t afford higher taxes on food/booze/cigaretts/gas/milk or earnings. The stimulus bill that he voted on without reading only has put about 5% into the economy (the majority of the 700 Billion is to be spent in 2010 and 2012 (election years).

Real jobs are being lost (not many government jobs, but private jobs). Many people are taking pay cuts across the board so their friends and co-workers won’t be fired (again, not many of these are government jobs). Car dealers are being forced out of business due to government takeover of 2 of the big three auto makers (loss of jobs due to government takeover) yet Pelosi was in MN to tout $107 thousand (yes thousand not million) for some summer jobs (wow). I best she spent more money on travel expenses then what was given to Minnesota.

Mr Walz, if this is who you want to be associated with ( a person who has virtually no core beliefs that reflect that of the voters of the first district) then I think it is time you come right out and tell us in your district who you really are.

The Republican party is floundering. Pelosi is in town and all they can say is “She is calling the CIA liars” no wonder we have so many fringe politicians in Minnesota when that is the best the opposition party can come up with.

MN GOP give me a call and I can help you talk about items which Minnesotans care about, then maybe you can compete again.
