ELLISON’S EXTREME MAKE-OVER NOT YET COMPLETE

    By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 27, 2006

It would be a mistake for anyone to think Louis Farrakhan is only anti-Semetic.  For example, Farrakhan and his supporters have spewed hatred towards whites and homosexuals.

This morning I read that Keith Ellison attended the 2006 Pride Festival. Ellison's extreme make-over is not yet complete!

"Tony Sanchez and Patrick Wald wore black-and-white tuxedoes with pink accents as they joined 30 other couples in a mass commitment ceremony in Minneapolis' Loring Park during the Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Pride/Twin Cities Festival.

Sunday's event was purely ceremonial, since gay marriages are not legally recognized in Minnesota.

As states across the nation consider whether to recognize same-sex marriages, the issue remains extremely divisive among Republicans and Democrats, religious conservatives and gay-rights organizations. Many believe marriage should exist only between a man and a woman.

'There are no throwaway people in this world,' said Rep. Keith Ellison, DFL-Minneapolis, who helped kick off the ceremony during weekend festivities that drew at least tens of thousands of people and, according to event organizers, as many as 200,000 people." Ellison has been franticly mending relationships with the Jewish community, but when does he apologize to the gay community and other victims of Louis Farrakahn's hate?

Below are quotes attributed to Louis Farrakhan about homosexuals.

"I call them the so-called Jews because to be a Jew you have to adhere to the statutes and laws that create the special relationship. How can you be a Jew and promote homosexual marriage?"   National Black Agenda Convention, Boston, 3/18/04

"But all of a sudden in the night clubs, they started having transvestite shows, drag queens… Scripture say no liar, no adulterer, no effeminate will get in the Kingdom." Saviours' Day Speech, Chicago, 2/23/03

"I don't hate Jews. I honor and respect those who try to live according to the teachings of the Torah, but you can’t criticize Jewish people. If you criticize them you are anti-Semitic. If you don’t agree with what they are doing, you are anti-Semitic. The Bible says, Revelations, those who say they are Jews and are not, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan. I don't hear you preaching that full Gospel. You are afraid of consequences. But no man can say he's a Jew and promote homosexuality. No man can say he's a Jew and promote that which is against the commandments of God. No man can say he's a Jew and run the despicable, degenerate movies. The filth and degenerate language." Saviours' Day Speech, Chicago, 2/23/03

"…I think that when you warehouse Black men in prisons and they have a sexual drive that is being titillated by the lyrics and by the cultural degeneracy that pervades America today, this sexual need is sometimes filled with activity that God disapproves of." Meet The Press interview, 10/12/97

"It seems like being gay or whatever sin you wish to be a part of is okay…but I have the duty to lift that gay person up to the standard to ask if they want to live the life that God wants them to or live the lifestyle that they want to live." Boston speech, 8/7/97

Tim Pawlenty, Mark Kennedy and Michelle Bachman are all Republicans. So is Pat Robertson. I think they should all apologize for the following statements of his:

“[The] feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.”

-Fundraising letter from Pat Robertson that was an in- kind contribution to the Iowa Committee to Stop ERA, as reported in The Washington Post, August 23, 1993

Ummmm, this is Keith’s fourth Pride even that I am aware of.

You got proof he never attended until last week? No you don’t. He’s already rebuked Louis Farrahkan. You got anything KEITH said? I didn’t think so. More of the same with you Brodkorb, guilt by association. You know Pawlenty was Grunseth’s campaign manager in 1990. Since Grunseth was a molester (and a Republican endorsed for Governor, imagine that), is that the reason Pawlenty has been so soft on sex offenders? Does he approve of 50 year old men and 14 year old girls skinney dipping and frolicing around? What about the fact that one of the girls was Grunseth’s step-daughter. I mean Tim Pawlenty, Pat Anderson (Awada), and Tim Commers were all senior staffers with this guy. We know where they are today.

You’ll be calling Ellison congressman soon, and your congressman that’s paying you will never be called Senator- or Congressman.

I never said this was the first time Ellison attended the pride parade.

In order for this to be a makeover, there has to be new moves introduced. Keith Ellison going to Pride is not a new move. Keith Ellison speaking and promoting progressive/liberal issues is not a new thing.

How does the ‘makeover’ continue? Or, is this your opportunity to bring up more Farrahkan? I do get it, the more people read on Louis Farrahkan, the more they’re scared.

      “Guilt by association”, DJZ?

Um, yeah, associate with Farrahkan for a long period, help push for his values, work towards his goals, in a stridently anti-gay organization, and there IS going to be a degree of guilt by association.

There’s also going to be a bit of disbelief; is, or was, KE’s stance toward gays a matter of political advantage, now or earlier? Did he really not hate gays in his Farrahkan days, or is he hiding his feelings now? Either way indicates a high degree of insincerity.

You use the term “guilt by association” in a manner that implies that, while KE might have once stood next to Farrahkan, he never really had anything to do with him. THAT’S what the pejorative use of the phrase means. It’s poorly used by you in this context. KE’s past associations truly do make him guilty.

“Tim Pawlenty, Mark Kennedy and Michelle Bachman”

When they start working for Robertson, cooperating with events that tout those statements and claim to be part of his group, then we’ll talk.

Ellison wasn’t just on the mailing list, he was an organizer, collaborator and participant with the Nation of Islam for years. This is indefensible.

    8. Chris Says:
      June 27th, 2006 at 12:47 pm

Why should Republicans apologize for Robertson’s letter? I think it describes Hillary to a “T.”

After the 5th CD Convention heard a story from Gary Schiff about how, as students at the U of MN, when Ellison was organizing the afore (ad nauseum) mentioned event the future Congressman invited Schiff to speak about the historical role of GLBT people in the black civil rights movement. As he told it, while he was speaking, and getting some odd looks from the crowd, he looks over to the side and there is Keith cheering him on.

So, looks like Keith has always been on the correct side of history when it comes to GLBT rights and communicty.

And Pawlenty has let more sex offenders out on parole on his watch, because he’s sympathetic toward them. Afterall, his party, under his watch ELECTED one to office and elevated those who support the pervert for Governor in 1990 to the highest offices in the state.

      bobby_bs,
KE never met Louis F. Never. What stage did they stand on together? KE was NEVER a member of the Nation of Islam. Never. He belonged to a liberal Mosque. What values of the Nation of Islam did he push outside of demanding that black men stop some of the destructive behavior?

Surely with all of the researchers out there going into overtime on KE, there has to be a record of his being a member or even pushing the counter-culture values of the Nation. Where’s your proof? Even in politics, you need proof, or you can find yourself in court. Right republicans?

Yeah, you never said that this was Ellison’s first Pride but you made it _sound_ like he suddenly was courting the gays. How is it a “extreme makeover”, that which is something he has consistently done (made an effort to reach out to the LGBT community)?

I live in Keith Ellison’s district and his record in the legislature on gay issues has been very good - and better than most democrats, who don’t speak up on these issues. It’s also not the first year he has gone to Pride. Keith also wrote a column in support of gay rights and in opposition to the Bachmann amendment in the black press. He was criticized by some of the anti-gay members of the black community for that.

There are other issues in Keith’s legislative record that I have concerns about - his vote in favor of creationism is the vote I have the most problems with.

I’d have more problems with Keith Ellison with the Farrakhan issue if he was still involved with the NOI - and if he was organizing for the Millions More March.

There are many DFL politicians who deserve lots of criticism for the way the way they treat the gay community as an ATM and nothing else. Mike Hatch, Rebecca Otto, Matt Entenza, and Al Juhnke all deserve that rap.

Keith took a tough vote on behalf of the gay community, when he voted against the state contracts because the bill had taken the negotiated domestic partner benefits out of the contract. Most democrats voted for this bill.

      jimj,

Give you proof on recent events? You don’t know what happened on the Republican side to their gubernatoral candidate in 1990? You should then keep your dumbass mouth shut. I’ll throw you a bone: in 2002, Dick Borrell was elected to the state house as a republican from Delano. The former deputy admitted to basically date raping his nephews girlfriend. He was punished for it, but never lost his civil rights to own a gun or run for office. Which he did. He was such an embarassment (of course only after people found out about his past, you know you Republicans), that Sviggum and Paulsen themselves went to Delano to recruit someone else to run against him, Borrell was not endorsed again and that was the end of that.
I’ve told the Grunseth story too many times. It’s how we got Arne Carlson.

What else do you need some educating on? Oh by the way, 1/8 truth telling is what I thought you guys were about. I’m just speaking your language.

    15. DJZ Says:
      June 28th, 2006 at 12:06 pm

By the way, MDE, you got anything maybe Keith himself has said?

By comparasion, I see that Kennedy has associations that are under investigation for actually breaking the law and cheating our country during a time a war. I guess Mark Kennedy condones law breakers and tax cheats (which costs the rest of us working slobs). That’s the guy we want making laws? Naw.
