FERGUS FALLS DAILY JOURNAL: JOHNSON A “FORMIDABLE CONTENDER” FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL
By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 27, 2006
"However, this year the GOP has a formidable contender for attorney general in the person of Jeff Johnson. The DFL Central Committee will meet Aug. 12 and may or may not endorse one of the three candidates (Luther, Kelley or Swanson) to oppose Republican candidate Johnson. All three DFLers’ names will be on the ballot for the primary election on Sept. 12, with the winner opposing Johnson for the Nov. 7 general election." Pretty much what I have come to expect from MDE.
An eight paragraph story talking about Bill Luther, who was born in Fergus Falls. One paragraph mentions Jeff Johnson. That is the MDE news.
Today’s vocabulary word: CONTEXT.

The Fergus Falls Daily has spoken.
What time is Ron Carey holding a press conference to tout this impressive blurb?
Norm Sr. loves the ladies.

It’s funny that you mention context because the only editorializing in it is the sentence about Johnson, in which the paper categorizes him as “formidable.” Otherwise, it’s a garden variety biographical sketch of Luther, which is not noteworthy at all.

The Dems have a serious problem in this attorney general race.
They have a “has been loser” in Steve Kelley who might be the darling of the delegates and might actually win this endorsement (finally).
They have an extremely shady character in Bill Luther who basically replaces Entenza as they guy you just can’t trust.
And they have an untested crony of Mike Hatch who will carry with her most of Hatch’s baggage as the still developing saga surrounding him begins to climax.
I’d love to be in Johnson’s shoes right now. He has been a legislative leader on all of the issues he is championing on the stump and he is running against a veritable who’s who of the liberal C Team.
