MN GOP STATEMENT ON FRIVOLOUS LAWSUIT BROUGHT BY TIM WALZ’S LIBERAL ALLIES
By Michael Brodkorb | August 15, 2006
St. Paul – Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey today issued the following statement regarding the DFL’s frivolous lawsuit against Rep. Gil Gutknecht.
"Tim Walz's liberal allies will stop at nothing to try and tear down Gil Gutknecht. The Republican Party of Minnesota believes this frivolous lawsuit will be dismissed by the Minnesota Supreme Court.
"All the frivolous lawsuits in the world can't obscure the hard-left nature of Walz's candidacy. From his support of gay marriage to his campaigning with Al Franken, Walz is wrong for the families of the First District."

But if Gil’s signatures were collected in a period other than that specified by Minnesota election law, should’nt there be a penalty?
It seems small, yes, but technically it was wrong. Also nice try tying Tim Walz to a lawsuit he has no part of.

And, if as Gutknecht suggests, there is no specified time period during which the names must be collected, what is to keep a candidate from collecting the names the first time they file, and then using the same names every time they file thereafer?
Seems to me, Ron Carey’s press release is more based on fear than on boredom this time.

You DFL HACKS can’t talk about any issues with
WALZ, because he’ll lose if you do,so you have to
go this route ! Clearly, GUTKNECHT, has filed this way 7 TIMES and there has NEVER BEEN A PROBLEM WITH IT! I really wish you all the luck
in the world with this complaint, because if it
is successful I can’t think of a better way to get the GOP rank and file off it’s butt !

Once again the Democrats prove that if you can’t win, try to find a judge to hand you the election.

Like I have said previously, I have supported Gutknecht in the past, but he seems to have gotten fat and happy with his position in Washington. He seems to have grown out of sync, sloppy, and generally, out of touch.
Who knows if this suit has merit or not, but it seems indicative of where Gil is at right now. It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if he and his team screwed up on this one.
AS to Walz not having issues–this seems like a dangerous and foolish underestimate. Gil is moving toward Walz’s position on DM&E as well as Walz’s position on Iraq. Again, who knows if this is enough for Walz, but he is for real, and to claim that he is not is a mistake.

Tim Walz has spent his entore campaign talking issues. That is why his lead over Gutknecht is so firm. Your side has tried all the dirty tricks in the book, but when stared down by an actual leader, you just scurry back under the porch and hide.
Accusing Tim Walz of not talking about the issues is like saying Mark Kennedy is a free thinker. Anyone can say it, but no one believes it.

It is so frivolous that the MN Supreme Court is taking the case.
Do they do that often?
And as for judges handing over elections, pay much attention to the 2000 & 2004 elections?
Fuzzy math? No, fuzzy GOP logic going on there.

The biggest reason I think Gutknecht should lose isn’t because I’m a democrat, but because he has spent 12 years in congress without doing much of anything. I personally don’t agree with him on many issues, but if he could at least be seen to be fighting for southern Minnesota then, great, re-elect him. But I’m from a very conservative portion of CD-1, and if you ask anyone out here what Gil has done for them, none will be able to say a thing, unless they are seriously in with the party and spit back talking points. It is time for Gil’s era to end, as indistinguished as it is.

I think a Tim Walz and ol’ Gil is the best match up for the DFL.
If only corrupt Tom DeLay , and Bob Ney were still on the ballot for Nick Lampson and Zach Space to destroy in the general election. Hmmmm
Leave Gil, and his “blind follow the leader until I get a strong challenge” on the ballot.

They should let him stay on the ballot. However Kiffmeyer has to go — to have one set of rules for major party candidates and another for minor party or independent candidates is crap.
This is a stupid lawsuit, but Ron Carey’s bitter diatribe trying to smear Walz and the DFL is crap also. I think his reactionary-news-release-a-day will wear thin by September.

RamseyRep: // Once again the Democrats prove that if you can’t win, try to find a judge to hand you the election. //
Or just find 5 of 9, like GWB.
He never was elected, was he?

1) Tim Walz is ahead in all the polling coming out of that district, so, this isn’t an underdog sort of move.
2) Tim Walz/the dfl aren’t the ones suing.
3) From the party that forced George Bush upon us through use of the courts, I don’t think you have much room for tossing stones about court appointed elected officials.

I don’t follow Gutknecht that close but I feel a little sorry for him in this instance. I don’t believe he was trying to do anything wrong and I’m not sure he was — I’d like to give him the benefit of the doubt.
On the other hand, Kiffmeyer is a disaster. If we don’t want this state to turn into Ohio or Florida, this person has to go. Not that excited about Mark Richie but MDE’s hatchet attempts on him is making me get more enthusiatic for backing him. The Secretary of State’s office should work to keep as few barriers as possible from keeping people from voting. Kiffmeyer has a partisan history of trying to keep native Americans and the disadvantaged from voting — thinking incorrectly that only the “right’ people should vote. That’s not Minnesota’s heritage, nor its future I hope.
And two different sets of rules for major party and minor party candidates? What load of bull is that?!!?! Eliteist.
Ron Carey is nothing but a whiny brat — the boy who cries wolf so often that by election time he won’t even be covered.

Roving and Hanna, can you source where you get your info on how GWB was not elected? What proof do you have that shows clearly that GWB did not win the vote? We are aware of the Democrats trying to have some votes counted while others were not, but I have yet to see one piece of eveidence that proves he did not win the election. Don’t get me wrong however, I like it when you lefties cry foul over this as it is clear it turns off the public and will be yet another reason why the Demorats will lose elections they believe they have already won. As we have seen in the past, it really is the leftist dems that will go to any length to win back power. Slash bus tires, steal yard signs, peel bumper stickers, intimidate conservitive groups, any possible way that might help you cheat your way in. I love watching this state turn more and more red all the time and the die hard lefties and DFL hacks are beside themselves wondering why they are losing elections. There was a time that Dems did not have to spend much money to win this state. My how the times they are a changing.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the DFL model of how they would run things looking at downtown Mpls? Clearly they have turned that city into a total dump and yet no one but DFL hacks run the show, wonder how they explain that? Makes me smile to see Mr. Rybak get shouted down by the people if his city. I really do believe in the next decade we will see the people of Mpls stand up and kick those jokers to the street. I like to believe hard liberalism died with Wellstone in this state.
Any chance we could have another rally like we did after he died, that clearly helped show the country what you folks are made of. That and the fact the country/ state totally rejected your beliefs when they are truly exposed. Thus, we have this wonderful site Minnesota Democrats Exposed!
Only a matter of time boys!

Big Kahuna needs a time out.
There are good guys and bad guys on both sides. It’s just currently the balance of bad guys has tipped over to the Republican side.
It doesn’t help having people like John Kline representing your party. Or Mary Kiffmeyer or Ron Carey. Not my job to point out your good guys, but those are three people who are not and I point them out to save you a little time.

From an e-mail I recieved:
Kiffmeyer’s Bad Week
Mary Kiffmeyer was sued twice last week. The first suit is from an Independence Party candidate for State House who is suing Kiffmeyer because a mistake she made may keep him off the ballot this fall. The second suit says that she improperly accepted Congressman Gil Gutknecht’s petition, which should have been ruled invalid. This second mistake may cause Gutknecht to be kicked of the ballot.
Here’s the latest:
“Legislative candidate blames secretary of state for ballot mistake†from Minnesota Public Radio
“Gutknecht’s filing practice challenged†from the Mankato Free Press
