The Ostrow commercial was funny, and anytime someone's mom can pull off a part in a campaign ad, I think it helps.

If that commercial were only the tone of the rest of the election season... Fat chance of that.

It's clear that ERJ and her supporters are pursuing the, "I am in the lead and it's down to me and KE" strategy, in order to try to convince us all that she is legit, and to steal potential votes from Erlandson. The make believe poll on Kennedy v. the Machine is merely an example. In reality, the last time anyone legit checked the top three were pretty much even, with a whole boatload of undecideds. And that was before Keith officially became the equivalent of toxic waste.

That means things should get nice and messy over the coming weeks. Ember can be ripped to shreds for her open support of Joe "the closet Republican and Iraq war proponent" Lieberman not even 2 years ago, while Keith is just a disaster.

I saw that commercial yesterday morning around 7:00 during At Issue. I laughed so hard I woke up my kid. The not-so-subtle shot at ellison was classic.

In my mind, it's still between Ember and Keith at the end of the day. Ostrow will take a large chunk of NE Mpls. Keith and Erlandson will split downtown and SW Mpls. Ember will be strong in the suburbs. SE Mpls will be a mix of everyone. Turnout in N Mpls and in the areas around the UMN will help determine if Keith comes out on top.

The meter is a funny dig at Ellison. However, 99% of Minneapolis Voters will not get it unless you can get Jerry Springer to explain it to them.

Ostrow is killing in Ward 1. He may win his own ward by 2 or 3 percent. Outside of there, no one has a clue who he is. Clever ads may bridge that gap, but he has, by far, the lowest name recognition of anyone not named Alan Fine in this race.

As for fifth place, that was a bit of a joke. But fourth is surely about where nearly everyone watching this race has him placed right now. He is probably hoping that a good show here will allow him to work his way onto the County Board or the Met Council or something. Surely he can't believe that he is an actual contender for this seat.

Anyone who thinks the lineup for 1-3 is set in any respect doesn't know what they are talking about. None of the candidates can afford to poll. Meanwhile, of the three supposed frontrunners, ERJ is a Lieberman Democrat who many simply dislike, while another is possibly the most embarrassing endorsed candidate in local history. It's wide open right now.

Roving Reporter,

What exactly is the line up if Ostrow is in 5th? There are NO clear polls out there that I'm aware of. There seems to be no "lawn sign" mandate either. Honestly, I think it's anyone's game at this point.

Will, why is that desperate? I don't get it. When did buzz become bad? I've worked in public relations for years and we always alert the players and hope for some free media.

Sounds shrew to me. I mean, you watched it, didn't you?

After running through the gauntlet of campaign disclosures, the really interesting question will be whether Ellison can hold onto his license to practice law. If he does, it will demonstrate that the PR Board pulls its punches when the perpetrator of ethical lapses is black.

I blast the GOP because they never even have extra candidates who can do someting like this. Just because I like debate in my primaries doesn't mean I have to agree with all messages. Paul Ostrow was allowed to speak at our convention, which is more than I can say for Sue Jeffers on your side.

Ostrow will come in fourth, right after Erlandson. The real question is who will come in one and two.

Since you posted it two days ago, it is obvious that his campaign leaked news of this commercial to you.

A true sign of desperation on Ostrow's part.

Funny how Roving Reporter condemns the GOP for having only one candidate running for US Senate and then blasts anyone in the DFL who dares speak out against Ellison. So much for the party of openness and inclusivity.
