AP: PAWLENTY HAS TWICE THE MONEY IN THE BANK AS HATCH
By Michael B. Brodkorb | August 28, 2006
"ST. PAUL – Gov. Tim Pawlenty has twice the money in the bank as his chief rival, boasting $2 million the first-term Republican can pour into television ads, lawn signs and other vote-attracting tools.
Required campaign reports filed Monday reveal that both Pawlenty and Democratic Attorney General Mike Hatch have pulled away from other competitors in the hunt for money. Hatch is sitting on a bankroll of just more than $1 million.
The two men already have raised $4 million between them since the beginning of 2005.
The torrid fundraising clip suggests a more aggressive and visible campaign for governor than Minnesota typically sees. Political parties and outside groups are also gearing up for an active fall.
At this point in the 2002 campaign, Pawlenty and his DFL foe had about $240,000 each in remaining cash.
'This is going to be very competitive all the way to the end,' said Pawlenty campaign manager Michael Krueger. 'I certainly hope it's the kind of race where there's enough visibility that people get the sense of both candidates.'" Source: Associated Press, August 28, 2006

But remember, this doesn’t include the special interest money. Would the unions, MoveOn.org-types, etc have much more then conservative groups?

I don’t believe Mike Hatch can defeat Tim Pawlenty. Many DFLers think he’s an asshole, and won’t lift a finger for him.

But he’s such a working class hero! A fighter for the downtrodden, a tilter of windmills!
When your valiantly pursue justice, you’re going to ruffle some feathers ( who cares if the bird is wearing a judge’s robe).

That’s right – Hatch is even dismissed by his own DFLers as a pint-size angry bully. This will be the non-race of the year.

Newt Jr,
Exactly…..exactly. That is why I’ve chosen to invest most of my time/energy in helping the Kennedy campaign. I’m not worried about the Gov. race at all, unless something crazy happens.
In a year where there’s a possibility of losing our majority in the Senate and House, however, we have the opportunity to pick up a Republican seat in a blue state, and we need to do whatever we can to make sure it happens.

Many more DFLers think that Tim Pawlenty is an asshole than Mike Hatch and if the petty lefties can’t get over themselves and support Hatch, then they deserve Pawlenty.
Frankly, our governor has come out so moderately that I think that both bases from DFL and GOP have to be a little uneasy about their candidates. Too bad they are both probably lying, Pawlenty on being a moderate and Hatch on bringing people together and not raising taxes.
But saying that you think Hatch will lose because some idiots on the left think he’s an asshole is a pretty thoughtless comment.

Of course it’s a thoughtless comment. What kind of dipshit spends his time campaigning for a walking weiner like Mark Kennedy and talks tough about a governor that is far from tough and looks like a Cleveland Steamer in his own ad.

Mke Hatch is certainly an asshole, but so are homophobic republicans who drive big SUVs. I am voting for the Independence Party candidate. Fuck you guys and your political parties.
