This is a phone record of a 911 emergency call from May 16, 2005. A woman [I'm not releasing her name] called 911 to report she had been assualted by Keith Ellison, the DFL endorsed candidate for congress in the 5th CD.
"CLR RPT'G [Caller reporting] SHE WAS ASL'TD [assualted] BY ELLISON/KEITH/BM/41/WRG SUIT [Keith Ellison, age 41, wearing suit] LS [last seen] LEAVING APT [apartment]…UNK DIR [unknown direction]…NO EMS [emergency medical services needed]…CLR [caller] WANTS TO SEE SQD [police squad]"
This document is legally available and reflects what was reported by the 911 dispatcher who answered the call.
There are two-sides to every story and I will provide Ellison's campaign the opportunity to respond. This incident occured just last year so Ellison's memory should be clear as to what happend.

Interesting that the same people who ordinarily would give the full benefit of the doubt to a woman who called in an assault claim to 911 are now basically calling her a liar before hearing all of the information. Of course, Ellison may be completely innocent, but it’s instructive to watch this kind of hypocrisy flesh itself out in real time right before my eyes.

You’re going to regret flogging this one, because it’s just going to make Keith look good. The woman in question, a young woman from the North Side of Minneapolis, is an unstable person against whom Mr. Ellison has had to take a restraining order. That’s all public record. It’s sad for her that this is coming out because she truly is unstable and the full story will only add to her problems.
Keith is not the only person who has been stalked by this woman. My guess is very soon you will be seeing emails from this person where she apologizes to one of her victims (a prominent DFLer, not Keith), saying that when she caused a scene about him at a Minneapolis event she was off her medication.
You people will just throw anything at Keith without corroboration or verification, won’t you?

I thought it would take hours for the Left to start trashing the victim. Turns out it only took minutes.
It is easy for the Left to be “pro-woman” when their standard bearers aren’t smacking women around. Then, it is immediately the woman’s fault.
This is shameful. Let Keith tell us what happened and why this woman called the emergency number. Until that happens, please don’t try to preempt a bad story for Keith by creating an image of the victim that is unfair.

Re Informer: Not to defend Ellison or blame the victim (now watch me get jumped all over by the right), but anyone can call in an assault. One of my friends got put in handcuffs when she shoved another lady in a bar, and that lady called the police to report an assualt.
If what you say is correct, there is even less to it then that.

Please do not trash this woman. This is a serious, serious concern. So Sean Broom and SEIU informer, since we know who you are, be careful before you start your spin on this woman. Be very careful. This is a person who called 991 to ask for help. This is NOT a republican or democratic issue, this is not to be taken lightly. And if I’m not mistaken, it is a criminal offense to call 911 and use it to your advantage and there is no emergency.

OK Mainstream Media…let’s see what you do now. Do you sit on this or do you investigate both sides of the story and report it to the public. Since 911 calls are public record, I would hope that they look into this, but again, they have overlooked so many of Keith’s baggage (ie: the recent event with extremists), they probably will again. But the bottom line is to help the MSM out…it is the pattern of behavior that the public should be informed about, not one isolated incident. MSM, for goodness sake, report on the PATTERN of behavior. It is your duty!

I am feeling quite prophetic today. Last night I posted on the Minneapolis Issues List that there would be one more personal attack on Keith Ellison.
So far, we start with a very lightly coded attack on Ellison’s religion (Farrikan-style bow ties and “looming and silent black men in dark suits”). Then we move over to the stereotype of the “shiftless Negro” (doesn’t pay his parking tickets on time). Let it simmer for a while, then hit with the dangerous man thing again (a bogus sex charge).
If you look carefully, you can almost see the pudgy face of Karl Rove behind the curtain.
My next prediction: howls from the right that none of this has absolutely ANYTHING to do with race. And yet it seems to resonate with certain people in a way that even they do not fully understand.

Kim, has it occurred to you that maybe this story has *already* been shopped around to all of the mainstream media, they have all already looked into it and found it to be bunk? Of course, Brodkorb will post anything because he is not a jouralist, doesn’t pretend to be one, and doesn’t pretend to have journalistic ethics. But others do, because their professionals. They have looked into this story, at length, including having talked to the Ellison campaign directly. And they’ve all come to the same conclusion — there’s no story here because the person pushing it is, quite literally, insane.

Nope, I think I’ve bumped up against MB’s filters. He is apparently moderating any reference to N-rm C-l-m-n’s f-th-r and his problem with the police.
I believe this software allows for certain keyword filtering, and I think that’s what got my posts “deleted”.
I think it’s pretty lame to filter comments automatically, unless you are filtering on something extremely offensive.
If you are going to filter, you ought to at least have the courage to say what it is and why. Otherwise, you’re just censoring to make a better argument for your side.

2) Radical Muslim leaders will sacrifice women, children, animals, whatever to try to portray to the liberal media that Israelis are the agressor.
3) It’s a mystery why so many Minneapolis Jews are so blinded by their own liberalism and refuse to see reality. I’ve been to Israel and I’ve seen how the people there are under constant treat of Islamic terror. Maybe Minnesota Jews need some first hand experience to wake up.

As someone who can back up Informer’s asessment of the situation (and probably Brian’s too if I were ever allowed to read it) I find this to be an all time low for MDE, and that is saying something.
Keith Ellison has had trouble with a stalker who has a history of inapproporiate behavior toward more than one well known politician. If Paul Ostrow and the people at MDE believe that dredging up the history of a person soffering from mental illness will make you look better on primary day, you have proven to be more craven and morally corrupt than I had ever dared believe.

I thought we were all supposed to come to the aid of the victim and believe what she says. I thought that if we trashed the victim, by calling her unstable, we were really bad people discouraging other women from coming out when they’ve been abused. This woman is really mentally unstable. It’s nt an attack on the ‘victim’ because there is no victim.
She has attacked other men in the DFL. She is on medication and in therepy so, its going to be tough to really do anything about this.
You guys say Keith hate Jews yet, he has the support of the most prominant Jews who have lived in Israel and are children of Holocaust survivors (I know some on the Right deny it happened, but it did).
You try to paint him as a woman-beater, yet the police didn’t even have enough evidence to even arrest him. You really think the MPD would not jump on the chance to arrest Keith Ellison after he’s exposed corruption and sloppy police work by them? A black man, unliked by the police force will not be given the benefit of doubt. They had zero cause to arrest him but, because of this, a young woman’s illness will be exposed to the world. Actually Matt, I do have a basis for this.
If its the same woman, my cousin (Mpls DFLer and fmr elected official) had a run in with her about year ago and called my brother to represent him. Ellison’s restraint against her as well as her admissions in court stated EXACTLY what I wrote. Many Minneapolis DFLers know who she is. She has a public record. I am positive Brodkorb is aware of this. He has to be if he is as thorough as he claims to be.
No shame here, just you trying to be opportunistic over a situation that you have no clue about. So, shut your trap.

So some on the right deny the holocaust huh? Well I talked with 6 anti-war protestors today demonstrating in front of a post office (I won’t name the town). They were calling on the disarmament of Israel and the “freeing” of the Palestinians. I asked them if they had heard of the holocaust and all they could talk about was how terrible Israel is. The modern face of the DFL is pretty pathetic.

Those of us who are calling her unstable are doing so out of first hand knowledge of the situation. This woman and her bizarre behavior are not terriblly well kept secrets.
Who does it benefit when republicans and Paul Ostrow attack a woman like this? Do republicans sleep better knowing that they managed to use a woman’s private struggle with mental illness to defame the opposition? Is Paul Ostrow proud of himself for shopping this around to anyone who will listen?
MDE and Paul Ostrow should appologize for what they have done. But Ostrow will probably deny knowledge of his campaign manager’s role in this story, and Michael will just slap on his goofy grin and pretend that his actions today were not despicable.

Hmmm! So Kieth Ellison is often billed as antoher Paul Wellstone. The late Shiela Wellstone’s primary cause was domestic violence/violence against woman.
I can’t comment on the latest charge against Ellison but the media portrayals of Elliosn were as an “angry young man”. The numerous moving violation tickets tend to be a symtom of a lack of “anger management” skills. In explainign the tickets Ellison didn’t use a “where’s the fire” excuse but instead said he was “working in it”.
Personally I have had two speeding tickets in my lifetime. After both I assessed my driving and slowed down. (I also paid the fines.) It looks like Kieth Ellison may have “issues” with anger management.
In terms of domestic conflicts I can’t imagine the late Paul Wellstone doing more than “raising his voice”. We all know that the late Paul
Wellstone “riase his voice” often but the follow up was by legal methods.

Senator Satveer Chadhury is of East Indian heritage and I beleive that would be Hindu. What the hell, he’s dark and practices something that sounds funny so lump him and Keith with terrorists. BTW Timothy McVeigh voted Republican.
The Chadhury family has contributed a helluva lot to America. Aside from Satveer being an accomplished attorney, he’s also a respected legislator (born here), his brother is a decorated jet fighter pilot and his sister is a well-known surgeon.
Ellison also comes from a family of attorneys, doctors and ministers.
Both of them have been great contributors to Minneosta.

Sam and Sylvia Kaplan, Phyllis Kahn, and Frank Hornstein do NOT speak for all Minnesota Jews. They are out of touch and, frankly, to parade them around to “prove” that Ellison is not anti-Semitic is like Republicans parading around a select few black Republicans (JC Watts, Condi Rice, Colin Powell, etc.) to “prove” that it is a party of inclusion.

Sooo… this 911 call came in on May 16, 2005 and now Ellison “beats women”? Where is the arrest record? Where are the rest of the PUBLIC documents to support any claims that this went any farther than a 911 call? Surely in more than a year there would be more to this story.
Shame on you for continuing the rumor mill on an issue that apparently never went farther than that little slip of paper at the top of this page.

Ellison sent a LETTER to the JCRC….nowhere does it say in ANY news story that the JCRC now backs Ellison or fully buys his story that this was all just youthful mistakes. Where the hell do you get off implying that the JCRC has somehow endorsed Keith because he sent them a letter? What the hell do you know about the JCRC anyway? Do you work for them? Are you friends with people who have? I am. Shut up about things you know nothing about, OK? They are one of the best organizations in the state, they stand up for their fellow Jews (unlike the Kaplan phonies and Hornstein) and condemn stuff like the Nation of Islam I can damn well guarantee you that they wouldn’t agree with your take on Ellison.
As far as Temple Israel goes…a few years ago I went there to try to distribute some flyers because I was trying to organize a counter-protest to the protests that were going on at the time (2001-ish) organized by Israel-haters (in this case, who are also Jew-haters, as many of them are) who were marching with swastikas and chanting “Death to Israel” at local rallies. Yeah, actually I think that counts as anti-Semitic, not just anti-Israel, to anticipate your obvious, canned, knee-jerk Leftist “It’s not anti-Semitic to criticize Israel” reply. Rabbi Zimmerman angrily ordered me out of the place and said “we don’t do that kind of thing here.” That made me wonder about what kind of people Rabbi Zimmerman and Frank were…telling a fellow Jew who was honestly worried about the rising tide of anti-Semitism in the country and even in Minnesota to get lost, without even taking a minute to understand what I was trying to do. Granted, maybe I stepped over the line by trying to distribute the flyers inside the synagogue, but the way I was treated reminded me that – far from the “Jews are all in on it together” conspiracy crap that gets floated around by anti-Semites – many Jews have turned a willfully blind eye to the new threats to Jews in the world today, going so far in their denial that they will even back a candidate like Ellison who has a truly bigoted, anti-Semitic past. Many Jews don’t care about their fellow Jews. Jews have often been Jews’ worst enemy – witness the turncoats who became capos (captains) in the Nazi death camps. So don’t you dare parade around a few prominent Jews who support Ellison as “proof” that Keith is kosher with us Jews. He ain’t – and all you need to do is drive through some of the heavily Jewish areas of St. Louis Park (where, by the way, somebody spray-painted a swastika on a synagogue the other day) and see how many “Ember” lawn signs are up (big ones, prominently displayed, often in multiples of five or more) and how few Ellison signs are up to know the depth of loathing and fear that Twin Cities Jews, by and large, have for this man. Sam and Sylvia Kaplan and Frank Hornstein no more speak for area Jews than Condi Rice and JC Watts speak for African-Americans, and it’s really sickening to see the Left engage in this type of disgusting rhetoric. you need to get your facts straight buddy. The American Jewish World wrote an editorial when Ellison first got the endorsement saying that people were rushing to judgment about him. That is NOT an endorsement. Unless I’m hopelessly out of touch (I could be, but…) I was not aware of an endorsement by the AJW of Ellison. When you bandy around “facts” like that, don’t be surprised if people question your credibility. I didn’t say those folks weren’t “Jewish” enough – I said that they didn’t share the legitimate and serious concerns that most of the rest of the Jewish community has about Ellison. That makes them out of touch, in my book.

I’m working on a letter to the editor of the American Jewish World right now….no, they don’t speak for me, or most Jews in Minnesota, for that matter – not with this bonehead endorsement anyway. I’m very disappointed in them. But no, that doesn’t “put to rest” anything. It’s merely a foolish, misguided choice by the AJW, and they are going to hear about this from the local Jewish community. Once again, I see all you Far Lefties saying “see, Keith’s not anti-Semitic, so-and-so Jewish person said so” and frankly, that just doesn’t cut it. It’s bigotry on your part to point to a few people or institutions in the community and say that because they said something that they represent all of our views. Pure bigotry.

What a helluva time your wife must have convincing you yuo’re wrong. I know every single Jew does not support Ellison. The point was to clear him of being anti-Semetic. Individuals and organizations who are in-tuned with bigoted activity towards Jews could have remained neutral and stayed out of this, but they threw their support behind Ellison. The Kaplans kids live in Israel, they are there several times a year. Why would they send someone to Congress that could enable more attacks and death? Be realistic.

Funny you mention Cynthia McKinney, since Ellison USED to have a quote from her on the front page of his website until this whole Nation of Islam thing blew up in his face. The he scrubbed the McKinney quote. It’s all documented on earlier MDE posts. So maybe Ellison is, at heart, more McKinney than Rangel. He sure seemed to like her enough to quote her on the front page of his website…until….UNTIL…he realized he had to “prove” to local Jews that he didn’t associate with anti-Semites like McKinney. Then…the “new” Keith Ellison emerged, free of ties to the McKinney Jew-haters of the world.
I can’t control what Temple Israel does vis-a-vis Ellison’s mosque. Actually, I do applaud them for trying to have inter-faith dialoge- however, if it ever turns out that Ellison’s mosque has been aiding and abetting terrorism like so many other mosques in the country and the world, I will retract that applause.
I don’t hate Muslims. I hate Islamic radicals who want to kill us all. There is a difference, and I’ve been clear about that difference. But Ellison has allied himself in the past with Islamic radicals like the Nation of Islam, and more recently with the speaking engagement with CAIR exec. director Nihad Awad (a supporter of Hamas in his past statements). That concerns me, and it should concern you too, but apparently it’s no big deal to you.
You’re right, Jews don’t tend to kill each other much. I take that as a point of pride and don’t exactly get what you were trying to prove with your point.

We hate the same group. As repugnant as the Nation of Islam is, I can’t put them at the same level as Hamas, Hezbollah and other radical groups of Islamic faith. Those others are our proven enemies, NOI is radical but, not murderous. I don’t want to hear either one, but one is a clear and present danger of America.
You made the point that all Jews don’t agree, you also asked have we seen any Muslims disagree with each other. My point was to show that Muslims have been disagree with each other to the point blood, death and war for a thousand years. They are not all in-sync.
I’ve been around long enough to understand that speech is still protected until it has the potential to become adverse action. I haven’t seen this from Awad. As a matter of fact, that group he represents voted 78% for George Bush the first time.

I have never heard or read anything negative about Jews come from Keith. As a college student, I dont know. Many of us are angry and restless when young, we grow out of it and become productive. Ellison has done that, before his political career.
Cynthia Mckinney is out right racist. Charlie Rangel is a black COngressman with a large Jewish population who is very strong on Labor and liberal issues, including African American issues, without being insulting or bigotted toward Jews. Knowing Ellison, that’s where is he likely to end up.
The biggest tell-tale sign for me is that without any public pressure, or holding a political office he went out and seeked this very open and liberal Mosque to join. His particual Mosque do not suppress women and is villified by the Nation of Islam for its diverse works.
A person who had any kind of hatred in them, would not fit in with that Mosque at all and in the years of being there, that hatred would have surfaced and he/she would be bounced right out.

Why I believe her story………
Sorry to disappoint the bloggers who think they know all about how information about Keith Ellison’s extramariatal affair with Ms. X was circulated. I sent the notes from my extensive interviews with the woman in question and the text of two 911 logs to MDE, the Strib and Pioneer Press. Many thanks to Mike Brodkorb for having the courage to put the issue before us all.
I spent hours on the phone with Ms. X before I wrote a story that outed her general allegations against Ellison in the August issue of The Wright County Republican. I thought it was important for the general public to know that there were allegations of abuse and philandering because, in most Minnesotan’s minds, I believe this subject really matters in judging a canidate’s character.
After listening to her story and asking hundreds of questions about the details I am convinced that she is for the most part sane. Mind you, I’m not a psychiatrist or psychologist. I have thoroughly enjoyed talking to her by phone and in person. I can see where from time to time she may get a little goofy, especially when she talks about a man she was seriously emotionally involved with for a long time. But every detail I have pursued about her story checks out. She’s bright, funny and every bit as engaging as the candidate. Keith’s “she’s crazy” defense doesn’t ring true. His “I don’t even know her” defense is ludicrous. She openly admits having some mental health issues (depression, ptsd) and one must wonder how much this affair did to inflame her problems. Her admissions don’t give Ellison a free pass to allegedly have two extensive verbally and physically abusive extramarital relationships with her over the course of 12 years.
I think one reason that none of the newspapers have reported on the story is that none of them have had the desire or the courage to question Ms. X. I am convinced this is one set of questions that they do not want to know the truth about. But they gladly accept a quote from Keith’s camp manager saying that she was disgruntled about being passed over for a job at a non-profit. No mention that Keith had encouraged her to pursue the job or about how he rudely teased her about not getting it. She’s been upgraded from crazy to disgruntled, which is a step in the right direction.
If the perpetrator had been a republican this would have probably made national news by now.
I’m thrilled that MNPublius published the restraining order. In the final analysis leaking that document to MNPublius will likely be regarded as the Ellison orgs biggest mistake of this process.
The restraining order has some information blocked out that needs to be clearly revealed.
Under the section that states the relationship between the petitioner and the respondent there is a blackout that I want to see. Did the court require Keith Ellison to state under oath that he had had an extramarital affair with this woman who worked for him off and on? Or was he able to file the restraining order request without spilling the beans of any complicity romantically? Potentially big problem here either way.
More worrisome yet is the possibility that the restraining order was retaliatory (with regard to her 911 assault call) and pre-emptive (one of few acceptable ways to silence a detractor). He could possibly lose his law license over the validity of his petition (assuming the bar association has more guts than the news media).
More potentially bad news for Ellison is the possibility that his own people have repeatedly violated the restraining order. Ms. X has abided by it. She’s reported the violations to police. Documentation to follow.
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. There’s no doubt in my mind that she was scorned, and scorned repeatedly. She has been treated badly. This type of vitriol is completely unacceptable for an elected official, let alone a so-called champion of civil rights. She certainly deserves more respect than she has gotten from Ellison, and from all of us.
Ms. X apparently tried to file an ethics complaint last year by contacting the chair of the House Ethics Committee. She was told that she needed two democrats and two republicans to sign off in order to file an ethics complaint. Pretty tall order for a gal who was too terrified and traumatized the night of that 911 call to follow through and file charges.
She apparently lambasted DFL party chair Brian Melendez regarding some manipulation of the caucus process that she felt limited participation. She apologized for getting huffy about it, but she did not apologize for her passionate dissent about the situation.
Ms. X worked hard and was actively involved in Northside politics for years. She worked under Ellison and she truly believed in him. So much so that she fell for him. It sure looks like he took advantage of her weakness. And it sure looks like he should have known better.
Any comparison to Paul Wellstone ends with Keith’s enthusiasm and charisma. Even though I almost always disagreed with Paul’s politics I know he would never have treated anyone the way Ellison treated Ms. X. No one ever questioned Paul’s commitment to Sheila. Or his commitment to Minnesotans regardless of party affiliation.
Why are her rights apparently not as important as his rights? Whay was she denied a chance to testify at the restraining order hearing? Why is his word regarded so highly and she doesn’t even get asked to tell her side?
I think we have a responsibility to forego contempt prior to investigation. And I think Keith has got some explaining to do if we’re to take him seriously as a candidate. We deserve a complete airing of both sides of this one. Or we can all just scream at each other and wait until the truth registers sometime next Spring.

Yes, Blacks can be bigots too, Louis Farrahkan is one of them. I have yet to see anything where Elllison speaks in support of him. Ellison had a radio show about empowerment for five years. You’d think in that time he would have said something. Nothing.
I can’t defend his timing on filing and paying fees but, I can pull enough evidence together to show the guy is not some racist.

If she will then the people that she worked side by side with in North Minneapolis, as you have shared here, will begin to know the truth as well.
