A MESSAGE FROM MDE

By Michael B. Brodkorb | August 31, 2006

I make no apologies for posting these public documents about Keith Ellison.  In fact, the response has been exactly what I expected.  After two years of exposing Democrats, I can predict their reactions and think two moves ahead of them.

I am rather surprised at some of my blogger friends for their quick defense of Ellison.  I am a very meticulous researcher and there is always two-sides to every story.  There is more coming and I think the bloggers behind MN Publius will wish they hadn't gone so far out on a limb to defend Ellison.

Dedicated readers of Minnesota Democrats Exposed know that I try and publish original material and not research that has been shopped around.  I never spoke with anyone in Paul Ostrow's campaign about this material, nor was my source a member of Ostrow's staff.

I did email Ellison's campaign and ask for a comment.  I have repeatedly emailed representatives of his campaign before I posted material exposing him and I have never received a response.  I will continue to email Ellison's campaign requesting a comment.

I hope the bloggers who criticized me for not contacting Ellison's campaign will help me get a comment for my next post on this subject.

Stay tuned – this story is far from over.

You are surprised that some people are defending Ellison when you post a pathetic smear like how a bus driver made a mistake and left his kids where they weren’t supposed to be? You are honestly surprised that people would find posting that to be the lowest of the low and despicable?

I’m guessing that you aren’t a parent. But more than that, I’m really beginning to wonder if you have any conscience at all. It’s one thing to post publicly available information on things like parking tickets or other issues that Keith Ellison is personally responsible for. It’s quite another to post something that attacks his family for a mistake that he did not make, a mistake that has happened to countless other parents.

And some of the comments from other commenters have been disgusting as well. To imply that the Ellsons could be unfit parents because a bus driver made a mistake is beyond the pale. It is just sick.

I’m so surprised that all of a sudden democrats have all become doctors of psychiatry. Clearly, there was a relationship between two people, what that was no one knows besides Keith and this woman. And the relationship turned out badly.

And women and men get restraining orders all the time, and that doesn’t make the other person “bi polar” or “manic.”

So before you start labeling this woman, just stop. I think all of this is shameful on both sides, but for JD/Matt to label his posting “women with mental illness” is vitrolic. Again, absolutely nothing to back up this statement, unless you have her medical records or a quote from her doctor, which is illegal, but I wouldn’t put it past any of you.

Don’t worry Michael, those of us that know you are well aware of what a good guy you are. The trolls on this site have a pretty vicious BDS streak and they’re just taking it out on the bearer of their own bad news. Keep up the good work!

  4. Dave of the VRWC Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 10:19 AM

I have to admit, as someone who is pretty conservative and not a fan of the modern Democratic party, I was a little uncomfortable with posting the documents without full context being given. I don’t want our side to resort to the tactics the Bush haters use. But you did give them an opportunity to respond….and at least your documents are real (that’s a cut on CBS for those not paying attention).

  5. DJZ Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 10:41 AM

Kim, SHE has admitted this in public records. SHE has admitted that when not on her medications she can be unpredictable. SHE has made her diagnosis public and there are plenty of HER emails in full demostration of her illness when not on medication and HER own apology afterwards.

Nice try at deflection, didn’t work, doesn’t float.

Micheal, I know, as well as others know, what you are holding onto for now and will ‘expose’ later. It will be refuted and thoroughly drag you down to where you want to be. Before you put it out there, I’m letting you know, your GOP buddies are on par with the next exposure. I strongly advise that you check out the research on a couple of your clients you’re advising. Why? Because misery loves company.

Personally, I don’t know what it is, I just what you’re holding on to. Thats it. Happy Exposing, its gonna be fun.

  6. Roving Reporter Says:

The folks from the left of this site are simply offering Michael an out. If he wants to walk down a path that stands a good opportunity of destroying his career, then he should do so knowing that he has been warned that he has sunk to a new low that will taint any future projects with which he may attempt to become associated. If he chooses to ignore the advice of people with knowedlge of the situation, then we will know that he is taking this risk willingly.

And to think. He is risking his future over a race between three democrats.

You are a hero to anybody who is even remotely familiar with Rep. Ellison and his ways. The only injustice is that elected officials below the Congressional level are not subject to such scrutiny. Ellison should have been weeded out years ago, but neither the DFL, local media, or even the Republican Party fulfilled their responsibility to the voters by exposing and discrediting this “man”.

  8. P.J. Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 11:37 AM

DJZ, how can you so openly contradict yourself in your “warning” post to Michael?

“Micheal, I know, as well as others know, what you are holding onto for now and will ‘expose’ later.”

“Personally, I don’t know what it is, I just what you’re holding on to. Thats it.”

Is Karl Rove using your screenname to make you look like you have no idea what you’re talking about? It would appear so.

    Damn He’s good.

  9. Mark Says:

MDE is becoming the local version of the Smoking Gun website. And I don’t mean that as a compliment.

  10. Kim Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 11:45 AM

Post those public records DJZ or else it is just your attempt to smear her.

But, I’m sure Eva, who has publicly disclosed her illness, can get you a good doctor, because you need one.

  11. Blog of the Moderate Left » Ostrow Slimes Ellison Says:

[...] Don’t attack fellow Democrats–especially by leaking to Brodkorb.  (And Mike?  Your protestations that you do all original reporting would be far more credible if this hadn’t been shopped the very same day you posted it.  And while you’ve emailed Ellison repeatedly, maybe–and I’m just saying here–you could pick up the phone?) [...]

  12. Gremlin Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 12:24 PM

Kim, do you know anything about DV restraining orders?

If there was even a hint that Ellison committed DV there would be a mutual restraining order on file. And a police report.

Neither has shown up yet. And I suspect a few folks have been actively searching for them.

  13. EvilDemocratz Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 1:25 PM

“I’m really beginning to wonder if you have any conscience at all.”

I have to wonder if ANY Democrat has a conscience when I see them defending a guy like The Con Man.

Week after week another revelation comes out about his not paying taxes, paying tickets, or disobeying this law or that law. And week after week Democrats find another way to attempt to deflect attention from their obviously flawed and unworthy candidate.

At what point is a Democrat willing to say “this guy just shouldn’t represent us”?

It seems that point will never come and instead they’ll continue to spent their time questioning the messenger instead of the Con Man.

A total lack of conscience and thus my name – Democrats are Evil.

“And women and men get restraining orders all the time . . .”

    - – -

I must live a sheltered life. In my world, no, women and men do NOT get restraining orders all the time, probably because, in my world, women and men aren’t beating the stuffing out of each other regularly. If this does characterize your daily view, then you need to hang with a more normal crowd.

And, yes, I’m using the word “normal” in a very judgmental way – i.e., if your crowd is getting restraining orders “all the time”, they are not “normal.” They are barely “acceptable.” They are certainly not the group I would go to first to find leaders of society.

  15. RTMN Says:

Michael, your increasingly hysterial desperation that Keith is going to win, no matter how much you Swiftboat him, is actually becoming more funny than it is pathetic.

Dave of the VWRC, you must not be reading MNPublius, because they’ve published *all* the documents, not Michael’s too-clever-by-half selection of them. Publius tells the whole story – check it out.

Kim, the woman in question admits in public documents that she suffers from mental illness. But I don’t suppose you could be bothered to look at all the documents. How does it feel to be a traitor, anyway?

  16. dare2sayit.com Says:

    Michael,

Thanks for exposing the serious character flaws of Keith Ellison. Voters have a right to know these things.

  17. DM Anderson Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 3:19 PM

Well now Keith Hakim-Mohammed Ellison has seen what local non-professional media scrutiny is like.
If he wins the primary, just wait til the big dogs get ahold of him.

  18. P.J. Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 4:15 PM

This is our only shot at him DM. Do you really think the strib is going to say two negative words about whoever wins the primary in the most Democratic district in the country? Not happening.

  19. MplsSteve Says:

I’ve never met Michael Brodkorb. Never knowlingly worked together on a campaign with him. Don’t know any of his family or friends.

But his research (up ’til now) has been almost impeccable. As of now, I see no reason to doubt him when he says there’s more to the story.

Mike is in the public eye and I find it really hard to believe that he has such a pathological dislike of Ellison that he’d risk his reputation over this.

Those of us who have been in politics for a long time value our reputations. I have no reason to believe that Mike Brodkorb doesn’t value his either.

Until proven wrong, I will take him at his word when he says that there’s more to the story.

  20. MN1 Says:

    RTMN,
In regard to post 15, What public documents? The democrats keep saying it’s common knowledge among democrats this women is unstable – how creepy is that that the democrats must not only gossip about volunteers like that but exchange documents on volunteers in which the volunteer implicates herself? I’d like to have heard some of those conversations.

  21. nope Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 5:08 PM

I guess my question is What could Keith Ellison do in Congress that the other 3 DFLers couldn’t?

My guess is nothing. If the other shoe is about to drop, as Mike has suggested, DFL’ers might want to consider one of the other 3.

  22. Eva Young Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 5:44 PM

I have an attack blog going after Michele Bachmann, but I wouldn’t post stuff like this on that blog.

    http://lloydletta.blogspot.com/2006/08/drama-queen-and-ostrow-campaign-star.html

Are you contacting Ellison’s campaign by phone or email? I’ll agree, that this sort of contact is a phone contact.

  23. dare2sayit.com Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 6:30 PM

I’m still confused about why the DFL endorsed Keith Hakim-Mohammed Ellison over three more honorable candidates in the first place. It obvious now that this was a bad mistake, but will they admit and correct it?

  24. Eva Young Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 8:09 PM

Michael, I think in general, if you are attempting to get comment, that phone is a better way to do it, but think you don’t need to contact campaigns for response to well sourced material.

I still think these posting these 911 calls were over the top. Normally I enjoy reading MDE, but these posts make me feel like I need to take a shower after stopping by this blog.

I think your blog is better than this, Michael.

  25. DM Anderson Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 8:40 PM

Hate to say it, MB, but if there’s more out there, let’s get it out there. The clock is ticking. It needs to be of the weightiness to tip the fulcrum, and cause mainstream DFL leaders to call for him to step down.

  26. Master of None Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 10:04 PM

What Eva Young really means is

“damn, I wish I had 911 calls on Bachmann”

  27. Eva Young Says:
    August 31st, 2006 at 10:40 PM

I don’t want 911 calls on Michele Bachmann. She should be defeated on the basis of her public record. That’s what Dump Bachmann has focused on.

I don’t get the point of this – there was plenty of fodder on Ellison with campaign finance shenanagans, tax stuff, and drivers liscense problems – there was no need to get into this kind of stuff.

  28. Master of None Says:
    September 1st, 2006 at 8:25 AM

What Eva Young really means is

“Ain’t no way I’m going to get 911 calls on Bachmann, so I’ll just have to attack her religion”

  29. swiftee Says:
    September 1st, 2006 at 9:02 PM

“I have an attack blog going after Michele Bachmann, but I wouldn’t post stuff like this on that blog.”

    HAHAHahahahaha!

THAT is rich! Eva and her dumpster divers have no problem digging into Michele’s garbage if they think they can find a piece of used dental floss…which Eva then ties to Michele’s religious beliefs somehow.
