SUPPORTER OF HAMAS DONATES TO ELLISON’S CAMPAIGN

By Michael B. Brodkorb | September 1, 2006

According to Keith Ellison's most recent FEC report, he received $2,000 from Nihad Awad.  Awad is the executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). Power Line first broke Ellison's connection to CAIR last week.

This is from Power Line:

Minnesotans may be in doubt about what is within "Br. Keith," but there can be no doubt about what is within Awad:

• Nihad Awad publicly declared his enthusiasm for Hamas at Barry University in Florida in 1994: "I'm in support of Hamas movement more than the PLO."

• This same year, according to the Weekly Standard, when Mike Wallace of CBS's "60 Minutes" asked Awad if he supports the "military undertakings of Hamas," Awad stood up for the terrorist group and told him, "The United Nations Charter grants people who are under occupation [the right] to defend themselves against illegal occupation."

• In an August 19, 2006 interview on C-Span’s Washington Journal, Awad rationalized suicide terrorism by suggesting it's really about fighting injustice. He refers to the writing of author Robert Pape on the subject: "He found out that it [suicide terrorism] has more to do with occupations and fighting injustice than religion. It really responds to the myth and the known notion now that has been used by several commentators and some politicians as a cliché because it sounds maybe dramatically well but factually it is not."

• Shortly after September 11, 2001, Awad and CAIR placed on their website a picture of the World Trade Center in flames and under it a call for donations. It read, "What you can do for the victims of the WTC and Pentagon attacks," and by clicking on "Donate to the NY/DC Emergency Relief Fund" one was unsuspectingly sent directly to the website of the Holy Land Foundation. A week later, the wording of the site was changed, as visitors to the site were directly told to "Donate through the Holy Land Foundation." The link was on CAIR's website until early December 2001, when the information mysteriously disappeared.

• On December 4, 2001, the reason for the disappearance was apparent, as the Holy Land Foundation's assets were blocked by the United States government for funneling money to Hamas. According to the White House website, "The U.S.-based Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development [provided] millions of dollars each year that [was] used by HAMAS."

• On Sept. 16, 2000, at a Washington rally sponsored by CAIR, AMC, and MPAC, Awad declared: "They [the Jews] have been saying 'next year to Jerusalem,' we say 'next year to all of Palestine!'

    Hhhhmmm.
Do ya think this could be where that $18,000.00 for the delinquent taxes could have come from???
    Just wondering.

    I don’t think the Kaplan’s gave it to him…..

Surely Keith turned down that donation from that guy at the racisit organization, CAIR?
Didnt he just he just get up in front of the Jewish Community and tell them how much he loves them?

I guess he is following the doctrine of Taqiyya after all…..

So, just so we are clear here.

Free elections in the middle east are fine, providng that we are allowed to select the victor?

    Good to know.

Because Hammas won the democratic election held by the Palestinians. And, you can call them terrorists all you want, but last time I checked, they were the first ever DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED terrorists in the region. It is becoming apparent that we want people in the middle east to have freedom, as long as it doesn’t include making and decisions without our pre-approval.

Each of the other three 5th District candidates have an obligation to the public to expose this fact to potential primary voters, and 9-11 would be an appropriate date to do it. Keith Hakim-Mohammed Ellison has clearly flunked Martin Luther King’s “content of character” test.

[...] I have been skeptical for months that Ellison, the DFL endorsee, could be defeated by any one of his three indistinguishable white liberal opponents.  But with the revelations of last evening that Mr. Ellison is the recipient of money from this loathsome individual, there has got to a tipping point at which even the voters of the 5th say, “enough”. [...]

Whether Ellison returns the contribution will be a great way to determine how “reformed” he is from his anti-Semitic past.

It’s time for Ellison to put his money where his mouth is.

You should note that PowerLine says a fundraiser was held for Ellison in Brooklyn Park that featured Awad as a speaker.

    Roving Reporter-
Hamas is a terrorist organization, responsible for the deaths if hundreds, if not thousands, of innocent Israeli men, women, and children. If you want to pontificate about whether spreading democracy in the Middle East is an admirable goal or not, fine. Yes, Hamas was democratically elected. But they’re terrorists. They’re murderers. What about the word “murderer” do you not understand? Ellison took money from a guy has expressed support for these murderers. That’s a real problem. Not a problem for you though. Nope, that’s just fine to you that your guy Ellison took money from this a-hole.

Roving, you have lost your moral compass, if you ever had one. How can you even defend this one with a straight face? Shameful.

So RR – by your logic if David Duke (a former democratically elected official) contributed to the Alan Fine campaign, you would be cool with that? Good to know…..

  10. Dwight Says:

    Lady Logician–

So by your logic, if a national religious figure (TONY PERKINS) who bought David Duke’s mailing list in an effort to curry favor among KKK-supporting voters

    http://www.thenation.com/doc/20050509/blumenthal

also has publicly supported and stood with Michele Bachmann

    http://tinyurl.com/pubaf

you would publicly denounce that? Good to know…

“In Ellison, we have a moderate Muslim who extends his hand in friendship to the Jewish community and supports the security of the State of Israel. He is a person with a vision of a more humane and equitable society and he is the candidate we favor in the Fifth District DFL primary election.”

RR, normally I disagree with what you say but mostly understand your point of view.

Here though…….Hamas is a Nazi organization that wants to exterminate the Jew. They were elected because Palestinian Arabs (and many Palestinian Christians) share this view. That is why they don’t care that Jordan occupies much of so call “Palestine” or that Eygpt and Saudi Arabia have walls to keep them out. It’s only where Jews exist that they have a problem.

    From the archives:

CONVICTED WAR PROFITEER DONATES TO KLINE’S CAMPAIGN

According to John Kline’s FEC reports, he received $6,000 from the PAC of former California Representative Randy “Duke” Cunningham. Cunningham was convicted of accepting $1.4 million in bribes from military contractors at a time when our soldiers did not have sufficient body armor or protective vehicles.

  14. Dave of the VRWC Says:
    September 1st, 2006 at 9:47 AM

    Geo,

    A) Did Kline know of decerated Vietnam veteran Cunningham’s problems when he received the $6000.

    B) I’m not sure if I follow the body armour conection to Kline.

    C) Have you talked to any one in Iraq and asked if they wanted to wear the heavier armour considering how it limits mobility?

  15. Roving Reporter Says:
    September 1st, 2006 at 9:47 AM

So, I guess I was right. Democratic elections in the middle east are only successful when the Americans are allowed to select the winner.

You all know how elections work. When the majority of a people vote for someone, they become the leader. If the Palesitinians believe that these terrorists are the best face they can provide for their government, then that should be a sign. It should say loud and clear that they have learned well from George Bush that diplomacy is a dead form of communication, and violence is the only way to gain respect in the contemporary world.

  16. Mitch Says:
    September 1st, 2006 at 10:32 AM

    RR-
sounds like you just defended Hamas again.
    Pathetic.
George Bush didn’t create Hamas. They were borne out of an ideology that believes first and foremost in murdering Jews. Kind of like the Nazis. But I guess the Nazis were just “reacting” to a world in which the only way to “gain respect” is through violence. Poor Nazis and Hamas, they just had no choice! The world MADE them kill Jews en masse. So sad. I feel really bad for Hamas. I guess life just isn’t fair, RR.

  17. Dave of the VRWC Says:
    September 1st, 2006 at 10:44 AM

If Bush opposes a fundamentalist Nazi government that wants to exterminate the Jew, and the liberals/Democrats in the U.S. support that government, then I’m proud to be a conservative Republican Bush supporter.

There’s been several letters to the editors in Minnesota papers saying the same thing. Bush haters say we should support the Jew haters in the mideast.

  18. The Lady Logician Says:
    September 1st, 2006 at 10:52 AM

Dwight – the last time I looked, Tony Perkins had NOT called for the elimination of an entire race of people Hamas has.

Geo – the last time I looked “Duke” Cunningham had not bombed an American military base – HAMAS HAS.

RR – the last time I looked there is precident for not dealing with an organization that wanted to wipe Israel off of the map – it’s called World War II…..

  19. Geo Says:
    September 1st, 2006 at 12:02 PM

Dave, just trying to provide some partisan balance.

I’ve asked Michael in these posts several times to use his connections with the Kline campaign through his work to find out to what veterans group Kline donated the $6,000 he got from Duke Cunningham. Kline’s chief of staff said he would be donating the money the campaign got from Duke’s PAC to remove any appearance of impropriety. I would assume, since this is money tied to war profiteering, that perhaps it went to some cause to aid soldiers who may have gotten injured (or even killed) because of whatever corners were being cut to funnel this money into Duke’s pockets and/or the recipients of his PAC.

Haven’t heard one word on where the money went, or if it went anywhere. As far as any of us knows, its part of the money being spent on the campaign fliers attacking Coleen Rowley … whoops, I meant “attacking Coleen Rowley’s unpaid campaign worker.”

What’s the big secret with where this money went? Michael reads these, he has access to the Kline campaign. How about posting a dated receipt to whatever charity the campaign donated the money to? Why not clear the air on this?

Since Kline’s chief of staff publicly said that the money was being given away to remove any appearance of impropriety, why not say where?

It’s a no-brainer that this money allegedly tainted by war profiteering, if it was donated, must have went to help soldiers or veterans who may have been harmed by Cunningham’s misdeeds. Which ones?

    You here Michael?????

  20. The Lady Logician Says:
    September 2nd, 2006 at 10:49 AM

Geo – you make a false ASSumption that Michael has “access” to the Kline campaign. Just because the Kline campaign hired the company that Michael is an INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR for does not automatically mean he has access to the campaign. Your attack is a red herring and you know it. You are simply trying to draw attention away from the real story.

  21. Geo Says:
    September 2nd, 2006 at 11:18 AM

Lady Logician, isn’t this whole site about Michael’s personal access to politican information?

Secondly, at the end you make reference to “the real story.” What are you referring to? I have to admit, your reponse to me ratched up my interest level a couple notches. We’ll have to see if Michael weighs in or remains silent.

As I recall, I think my first post about this mysteriously disappeared from the thread I wzs on, but again, at that point it was a minor curiousity so I may have been mistaken. Wasn’t thinking there was really anything to hide at that time. Still not sure but you are seeming to fuel the idea that it is.
