ENTENZA APOLOGIZES FOR LYING ABOUT COST OF RESEARCH

By Michael Brodkorb | September 2, 2006

"Matt Entenza, who this summer abandoned his Democratic campaign for Minnesota attorney general in the midst of a controversy over his hiring of a Chicago firm to investigate Mike Hatch, said Friday that he paid $40,000 for research that was more extensive than he previously admitted.

In addition to Hatch, the current attorney general who is now a Democratic candidate for governor, Entenza's research focused on Gov. Tim Pawlenty; Rep. Jeff Johnson, the Republican candidate for attorney general; and Entenza himself.

When a Republican-oriented blog, MinnesotaDemocratsExposed, first reported in July 2005 that Entenza had hired someone to investigate Hatch, Entenza dismissed the report as 'just absolutely absurd.'

This summer, when the allegation resurfaced, Entenza said he paid only a 'couple of hundred dollars' for his research on Hatch. He said some research the firm conducted, including an investigation of a Hatch parking ticket, went beyond anything he authorized.

On Friday, Entenza filed an amended campaign finance report, disclosing that he paid the $40,000 to Gragert Research, the Chicago company that conducted the research.

In a four-paragraph statement, Entenza apologized to Minnesotans for not being forthcoming.

'I made a mistake in the handling and the release of information to the public regarding the research,' he said, 'and I apologize for that mistake and take full responsibility. … Once the research became public, I should have been more forthcoming and open about it. For that, I am very sorry.'

The apology was the latest development in a fast-moving controversy that turned the Minnesota political scene upside down." Source: Pioneer Press, September 2, 2006.

Just wanted to jump in before Raving Repeater….

Michael, congrats on the recognition and thank you for doing what you do with no pay. Before long, the verb will be “Brodkorbed” instead of “SwiftBoated” and we couldn’t be happier.

Jennifer Mattson would have beat this guy as predicted. Young and honest beats a serial liar anytime.

“Jennifer Mattson would have beat this guy as predicted. Young and honest beats a serial liar anytime.”

Not in the Darn Fornicating Liar Party it doesn’t.

I’m ashamed of Matt Entenza’s misleading statements and financial missteps, and he should be, too.

I expect a higher standard of behavior from the DFL.

I don’t really give a rats arse that he had the research done.

Nor do I care who he had it done on.

And I for sure don’t care that he paid $200 or $4K for that research.

But, the fact that he lied about it and then tried to cover it up, and subsequently apologized about the lies, only makes me wonder what ELSE has he covered up.

Where there is smoke, there is fire…

    BH-

Your post is silly… you have been defending Matt for a while now. (RR as well)

Your shame should be placed at your own posts for defending him and attacking those who did the research into his actions.

Try looking in the mirror next time you post about how you expect a higher standard of behavior from the DFL.

Michael, Michael, he didn’t say he lied, he said he should have been more forthcoming. He would go up greatly in my estimation if he said “Michael, I lied when I said you lied about me conducting opposition research on Mike Hatch.”

Did I defend him, or ask for proof of MB’s claims? Did I claim I knew what he spent, or challenge you and others to prove what you claimed? You know very well what I said.

The research presented was flawed, incomplete, and unbelievable. The sources were tainted. The presenters had suspect motives. The issue was a distraction from important issues that affect real people’s lives.

I questioned the facts of the case, and challenged those who believed, on faith, what had not been proven.

It just so happens you were right this time. It appears that even a blind pig finds an acorn once in awhile.
