NRCC COMMENTS ON MN-01 DEMOCRAT TIM WALZ’S OUTRAGEOUS EXCUSE FOR 96 MPH DRUNK DRIVING ARREST
By Michael Brodkorb | September 7, 2006
WASHINGTON – National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Ed Patru responded today to published reports that MN-01 Democrat congressional candidate Tim Walz attributes his 1995 arrest for driving while under the influence of alcohol to a problem with his hearing:
"Tim Walz's hearing problem may have been fixed, but his judgment today is as impaired as it has ever been.
"There is no excuse for the fact that Tim Walz was arrested for driving nearly 100mph while under the influence of alcohol. Bad ears may account for a failed field sobriety test, but they neither explain the fact that the citing officer detected the strong odor of alcohol on Walz’s breath and person, nor how it is that he failed a breathalyzer test.
"Tim Walz made a very serious and irresponsible mistake. He owes Minnesota voters a full confession for his impropriety 11 years ago, and an apology for such a disingenuous attempt at an excuse.
"Tim Walz's cowardice in this matter is stunning, and he has seriously damaged his bid to represent Minnesota's working families and their values in Congress."

What was George Bush’s excuse for stumbling through 20 plus years as a cocaine sniffing drunk? I guess it’s different when a Republican errors; then we should just call it youthful indiscretion. More hypocrisy!

This little article demonstrates what is wrong with blogs, and even politics in general. And he wasn’t convicted of dui.I as a voter, don’t care if Tim Walz was speeding ten years ago. Just as I don’t care whether or not Bill Clinton inhaled, or whether George Bush was a frat boy. Going over the speed limit by 41 mph is just plain stupid. Making a huge deal out of it ten years later is even worse.
September 7th, 2006 at 2:55 PM
Nathan, what you are saying makes some sense.
The problem is that Walz’s disingenuousness IS an issue. The guy just needed to say he made a mistake and the issue would have gone away. Instead, he comes up with some preposterous spin.
The cover up is almost always worse than the crime. Even in Entenza’s case when the crime was very bad, the cover up is what did him in.

I think the fact that the judge chastised the cop for not recognizing that he was deaf is a pretty good indicator that this is not some sort of made up story.
But, the point of this site isn’t accuracy, so, I guess that is to be expected.

Yet one MORE time Democrats make it easy for me to call them evil. Instead of dealing with the issue at hand, they’ve got to turn it into an attack on Republicans (even continuing to throw out the old, false W. crap to try and make their case).
Fact: The DFL’ers here would support this clown if he drove drunk and mowed down 100 people in front of the Dome, on national TV during Monday Night Football, because he’s one of their own. Character doesn’t matter (which is what they told us with Clinton) to them, just the fact Walz or other DFL candidates will vote their way.

Old, false W crap? Are you saying the GW is not an alcoholic and drug user?
September 7th, 2006 at 4:12 PM
/Instead of dealing with the issue at hand, they’ve got to turn it into an attack on Republicans /
This entire site is nothing but an attack on Democrats. “Fire first, look for the facts later,” is Michael’s guiding principle. Once in awhile, he tricks a naive reporter into making something out of nothing.
This campaign (meaning everything in 2006) is “more of the same” or “find a better way.” We need a more effective strategy in Iraq, stem cell research, a living minimum wage and a whole lot more.
September 7th, 2006 at 4:30 PM
“Are you saying the GW is not an alcoholic and drug user?”
Hasn’t touched booze in years and has never done drugs. What’s your source for anything contrary to that?
September 7th, 2006 at 4:31 PM
“This entire site is nothing but an attack on Democrats. ‘Fire first, look for the facts later,’”
Sounds more like the Mpls paper on Republicans. Only they don’t look for facts later.

EvilDemocratz. . . with a “z” . . . get it?
Instead of an “s”. That’s clever. Because it still sounds the same. Funny. Maybe you should drop the “i” in Evil, too. “EvlDemocratz,” or even “EvlDmcrtz.”
Maybe you should just change you name ot “Ann Coulter.”
September 7th, 2006 at 4:35 PM
Paul, that drug use stuff (by Pres Bush) has never been conclusively proven.
You know it. I know it.
Stop the BS, please.
September 7th, 2006 at 4:37 PM
Waltz did something foolish eleven years ago and it’s an issue now because Brodkorb says so and idiots like Evildouchebag agree.
Bush is the appointed leader of the free world. He’s running on a handful of remaining brain cells and visits Crawford frequently for the sole purpose of getting all pissed up.
I say that’s the issue. We have a brain impaired drunk running the show. And that’s scary.

Hey, good job, everyone! Let’s make fun of disabilities! Hearing loss. Some friends of mine have mental retardation. Isn’t that a yuck and half? Met a woman this morning who is confined to a wheelchair. Laugh? Thought I’d die. Anyone know any blind people we can castigate (or castrate, what the heck? Why go halfway with this?)? I know an elderly woman who has lost control of her bladder. Isn’t that the funniest thing??? And the high school girl with spina bifida. What a loser, right? And Max Cleland. Now there’s a terrific target. He can’t even run away. Get it? Get it??? You people are disgusting.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:48 PM
Just one more way for Republicans to avoid the issues.
The issue is, Republican majorities in both houses of Congress have put party loyalty above their duty to provide oversight of the President.
Unless and until we get back to a Congress that will provide some oversight, America will careen from disaster to disaster.
The framers designed a government that was specifically made to resist one-person-rule.
Republicans in Congress have betrayed the founder’s intentions, and they need to be thrown out.
MB/MDE’s focus on anything and everything else is exactly what the Republican playbook calls for.
A 11-year-old traffic stop. Cheese and rice.

Actually, everybody seems to be mad because he’s posting FACTS, no? The tickets and arrests and Orders are facts. You just don’t like the impression those facts leave.

Moonbats, your side will finally get the chance to shut up, quit playing Monday Morning QB, walk the walk on fighting terrorism, and vote up or down on whether to prosecute terrorists when the President’s anti-terrorism legislation rolls through Congress this fall.
It’s put or shut up time.

Old, false W crap? Are you saying the GW is not an alcoholic and drug user?
Uh, yeah, that’s what I’m saying.
Maybe you should just change you name ot “Ann Coulter.â€
Change “you” name?
I’ll take the Ann Coulter comment as a compliment, thank you.

You are a liar…or you have very poor reading comprehension skills. There’s no other way to put it.
No one has made fun of disabilities. We are mocking the excuse that hearing loss has been used by Walz’s campaign to explain away his speeding.
Don’t try to change the subject by saying that a person’s disability is being mocked. You sound like the typical Ellison supporter who explains away Keith’s tax and ticket problem by calling the accuser a racist.
September 7th, 2006 at 9:30 PM
It’s repulsive and offensive to suggest that a hearing problem excuses excessive speeding.

Bobby: // Actually, everybody seems to be mad because he’s posting FACTS, no? The tickets and arrests and Orders are facts. You just don’t like the impression those facts leave. //
My problem is not with the facts he gives, but the important ones he often leaves out, and the way he repeats and spins the ones he does give… when he bothers to write any analysis at all, that is.

Michael is not posting “facts” on this issue. Complaints allege; they do not state facts. Here, what is a fact is that the complaint alleges that Walz drove drunk. But allegations become facts only after two occurences: either a defendant admits to the allegation, or a judge or jury determines the allegation to be true.
Here, neither of those occurred. The first complaint indeed alleges (as does the ticket) that Walz drove drunk. But that allegation was dropped in the amended complaint. Walz then pleaded guilty to reckless driving. This caused it to become a fact. But the factual basis of the DUI was never determined. Simply because something is printed in a public document does not make it fact. I can file an affidavit in court, which looks similar to the complaint in this matter, stating that Michael is a Democrat. That simple step, however, does not make it a fact.
To no one’s surprise, Michael is a master at spinning. Here, he’s telling half of the story by reporting an allegation that was later dropped. He lets others relay that as a “fact.” They are wrong.

If you read the Rochester story, which I will assume you did not, you would have learned that the cop thought Walz was being difficult when, in actuality, he could not hear the officer.
Nowhere does he blame the speeding on hearing.
So, I will resume the allegation that you are doing a poor job of hiding your disdain for those with disabilities. Perhaps if you relied on news sources other than Michael, you would learn that there is a whole world out here full of people with all sorts of diverse circumstance. We are not all old rich white guys, and while republicans may deny it, the young, poor, minorities, and yes, the handicapped deserve representation too.

I love Ann Coulter!
September 8th, 2006 at 5:07 AM
Evildouchebag, you are detached from reality. Even the booze hound’s most ardent supporters acknowledge that he was a stinking drunk while at Yale and while falling off his bar stool in the officer’s club (while dodging duty). But he’s our Prez and we love him.

How does the Pres getting shit-faced drunk at an officers clube nearly 40 years ago have any relevance with today? Alot of folks did really stupid things in their youth and go onto be completely different people late on in life.
Heck, Ted Kennedy is a natural born killer, but, he has managed to refrain from passing over open bodies of water with young interns for quite a while.
GWB has had a drinking problem, but, has not touched the stuff in decades.
Maybe you could learn a thing or two from that example…
September 8th, 2006 at 7:02 PM
Bush’s drinking doesn’t bother me.
His lies about WMDs and Osama Hussein/Saddam bin Laden bother me.

Great, Brian, so what’s your solution to protecting us from terrorism? What’s your strategy for protecting my family from terrorists who want to kill us? Please be specific because my wife and my son’s safety mean a lot to me.
September 9th, 2006 at 1:32 AM
wtm: // Great, Brian, so what’s your solution to protecting us from terrorism? //
I’ve stated my position many times – I’m surprised you haven’t read it before.
We need to address terrorism with two tools: justice and law enforcement.
First, we need to pursue justice in every action, every foreign policy. Invading countries on false pretenses, torture, prisoner abuses, secret jailings, biased tribunals, and illegal warrentless wiretaps are all examples of unjust policies.
Justice includes following signed treaties and treating prisoners with decency. Those who truly deserve punishment should be provided at least the bare minimum of a fair hearing. There are many detained at Gitmo that are neither Taliban nor Al Qaeda, according to the government’s best evidence. We improve our own security by dealing true justice to prisoners.
Our unjust policies, including unquestioning support of every Israeli action, no matter how wrong, prove to the ME time and again how worthy we are of attack. We need to reverse our disasterous course of world domination and return to true American aims, a just peace with every country and people, and a fair broker of peace between nations.
Second, we need to reestablish good working relationships with our traditional allies, and reach out to every country with a worldwide improvement in integrated law enforcement.
After the escalation and spread of groups dedicated to terror attacks on civilians, we need strong, close cooperation between countries to mount an international law enforcement response.
This law enforcement effort must use every resource we have available, including high technology. These operations must include safeguards and oversight to prevent privacy abuse, but there is clearly a need to watch for terror and respond before it happens.
Sometimes a military operation will be needed, but many times these criminal groups live and operate in civilian areas, and we simply cannot wage traditional warfare in those areas. (For example, the Brits recently arrested suspected bombers in London. A cruise missle strike would have clearly been inappropriate!) Law enforcement is the correct, sustainable response to increased criminal activity.
In short, we should act justly, practice smart, cooperative law enforcement, and limit our use of the military to specific, limited engagements.

Well, now that the Free Press has an article giving us the information that the judge chastised the trooper for thinking Walz was drunk when in fact he couldn’t hear, this all seems a bit lame, doesn’t it? He admits to speeding which is refreshing to hear any politician admit a mistake. The fact that he was speeding 11 years ago is sorta a non-story. It is illegal but who hasn’t gotten a speeding ticket at some time? I used to be a republican but the party I believed in is gone with this group in DC now. Walz looks good from what I’ve seen and heard.
