THE GLOVES COME OFF IN THE 5TH CD

By Michael B. Brodkorb | September 7, 2006

"Former state DFL chairman and congressional candidate Mike Erlandson is taking direct shots at two of his opponents in a new campaign mailing.

The attacks came in a glossy, four-page piece with color photos of Erlandson, his family and supporters. Over a black-and-white photo of state Rep. Keith Ellison is the headline 'Does he think he's above the law?' Over former state Sen. Ember Reichgott Junge, the headline reads 'Out of touch with the district?'

Ellison, Erlandson and Reichgott Junge are locked in a DFL primary contest that appears to be tightening before Tuesday's balloting. The three, along with Minneapolis City Council Member Paul Ostrow, are the main contenders to succeed 28-year U.S. Rep. Martin Sabo in the deeply DFL district that includes Minneapolis and inner-ring suburbs.

Until now, Erlandson has not commented on Ellison's problems. When news surfaced about Ellison's numerous parking tickets, for example, he declined to comment and said he was running a positive campaign. But the pamphlet mentions Ellison's failure to pay taxes in some recent years, the parking violations and fines for campaign finance violations." Source: Star Tribune, September 7, 2006

I got this Erlandson piece in the mail on Wednesday.

As I quickly read through it before throwing it in the trash, I wondered why the smarmy creep hadn’t talked about this negative stuff on camera during the debate the other night?

I don’t particularly like any of the candidates, but Erlandson is the worst of the worst.

I haven’t seen the article yet. I was up in the Near North side Wednesday morning. There were a lot fewer Ellison signs in the near North side than in my Longfellow nieghborhood, the highest percentage white neighborhood in Minneapolis. Go figure!

Unbelievable! I’ve defended the “smarmy” Erlandson many a time to others that insist he is an “arrogant s.o.b.”, “ignorant to all but is own agenda’s”, etc. (i reeeally don’t enjoy repeating these let alone any others).
    I am DIS-GUST-ED!
I have a bottle of Fat Bastard Chardonay at home. Tonight i am adding dirty to the label and having a glass toasting the arrogant s.o.b.
    Anyone want to join me?

    Greg-
the reason you see fewer Ellison signs on the Northside is probably because they have firsthand knowledge of what a charlatan he is. The white limousine liberals in Longfellow mostly don’t care about Ellison or the Northside either for that matter – they just want to prove how “tolerant” they are by supporting Ellison. Unfortunately, my own tolerance ends where others’ intolerance begins. It’s not “tolerant” to vote for Ellison – it’s a vote for intolerance to ignore Ellison’s bigotry and still cast a vote for him.

Pakah, I’ll join you! I too thought ME was OK – but this shows that he truly is an arrogant SOB who thought he’d be crowned the successor to Sabo. And I thought more of MOS, too.

The voters in the 5th district are smarter than he thinks and will see through this blatant attempt to make himself look good. The voters will turn to the only candidate with the elected experience, knowledge and know-how to represent us in Washington – Ember Reichgott Junge!

  6. Big Kahuna Says:

What is great is that the liberal stronghold in the 5th will get exactly what they deserve which is a DFL hack who will turn his back quickly on those who elected him and go about his own agenda to only benefit who ever wins.

Much like with the great liberal stronghold in Mpls, we can see what many years of DFL rule will bring to any area they control. High crime, high taxes, poor police and fire support and cry wolf that it was someone else’s fault they are in the pickle they are in. When will people wake up and realize just how awful the DFL has become.

I like to blame the turn in the tides back to when this state foolishly put that total failure Wellstone in office. I still cannot believe that Farmers in this state actually voted for that hippi! I say it was DFL voter fraud!!!

It is good to see these candidates start to really take off the gloves with each other instead of relying on the media to do their work for them.
You want the job, a very important job, like Congressman?
    WORK for it.
    Get your own word out!
    Mail, email, speak and meet.
Shoeleather and a spine wins every time!
    Way to go Erlandson!
You were taught the old school way, now use it!
If he gets a little more fire in his belly people will see a new and improved Erlandson and he will be elected and respected!
If the press won’t print the Ellison goofs then hats off to Erlandson for spending money and speaking out and doing it under his own name….no more hiding, no more fear.
MDE had the guts to do so also!
He clearly is showing us that he wants this job and is willing to earn it.
    Now that’s good politics!

  8. EvilDemocratz Says:
    September 7th, 2006 at 2:44 PM

So if MDE was a KKK member for simply posting news about the Con Man, would his opponents also be KKK members now, too, for discussing his troubles obeying the law?

  9. Big Kahuna Says:
    September 7th, 2006 at 3:47 PM

Has anyone else noticed how tiny Mr. Ellison is??

I do not just mean mentally, but physically.

Didn’t this state learn what we get when we put in a tiny man? Wellstone ring a bell?

  10. Mark Says:
    September 7th, 2006 at 4:05 PM

During the televised debate earlier this week, I did notice the height difference in the candidates… but I’m only about 5’9″, so I can’t throw stones.

What really struck me was Keith Ellison’s facial tics – he squints a lot, sort of like Clint Eastwood in ‘Dirty Hairy’.

Is that his way of communicating earnestness?

  11. DM Anderson Says:
    September 7th, 2006 at 4:26 PM

No, his facial ticks are a non-verbal message that screams: I DON’T BELONG HERE! I DON’T DESERVE TO BE A U.S. CONGRESSMAN! I SHOULDN’T EVEN BE PRACTICING LAW!!

  12. Pakah Says:
    September 7th, 2006 at 4:31 PM

okay Big Kahuna, That bell thing is ADORABLE! I outright giggled.
Just last night i made note “little man” syndrome?
I enjoy a lot about him and his passion, but it needs to be directed, not exploded everywhere.

BK: // High crime, high taxes, poor police and fire support and cry wolf that it was someone else’s fault they are in the pickle they are in. //

It is exactly the fault of the Republicans that signed the TaxDodger’s pledge.

They passed property tax reform that shifted taxes to middle-class residential properties, and away from high-value residences and commercial properties.

The same legislation forces the taxable value of homeowner’s property up every year through 2007, as limited valuation is eliminated.

And it takes 26% of commerical property taxes away from Minneapolis to fund schools.

They also passed a $30 MILLION per year cut in the LGA to Minneapolis, cutting our police department, and causing the gang strike force to be shut down, among other critical serivces.

This was on the heels of Republicans in Congress cutting the Clinton COPS program, which also dealt a severe blow to Minneapolis’s ability to fund it’s officers.

It is exactly Republican cut-and-gut politics  that have caused Minneapolis’s budget problems and lead to increases in crime.

BK: // Didn’t this state learn what we get when we put in a tiny man? Wellstone ring a bell? //

    Hating Wellstone… how utterly disgusting.

  15. Big Kahuna Says:
    September 8th, 2006 at 11:35 AM

Let’s see Mr. Hanna. Mpls decides to keep spending on their pet projects rather than re-adjust their budgets so they keep their police and fire in line with community needs. Yep, sure sounds like a republican problem. ;) Your false cries are so transparent it is just plain silly. We could go on and on over stupid spending the liberals in that city waste their money on and then try to claim that it was all because of the state aid cuts that did it. NO, it was their decision to underfund police and fire but build new libraries and how about that million dollar plus green roof on the government center? Again, that city has been run by your kind for years Hanna and it is quite clear liberal democrats should not be in charge of anything.

As far as making fun of that total failure Wellstone, that just brings me a little joy in life. :) Talk about utterly disgusting… is how that man tried to play like he was for all Minnesotan’s when in fact the guy was nothing more than a shrill for liberal special interests!!

I have written many posts here and at the Star and Sickle site about what a worthless man he truly was and in reality the only things people can say about the man was how “passionate” the man was. Yep, he sure was, only all for special liberal interests only, he cared little for the comman man in this state. (Let’s also not forget how much his family had been enjoying the very weathly life he lead once he got that big government pay, guess he did really care about the poor so much he never gave up any of his big paycheck)

I am going to guess you do not care to buy one of my green t-shirts that say: “Thank God he is gone!”? It is even done in the same font that loser used on his signs. :) Oh, I am sorry, does this kind of talk about one of your liberal hero’s bother you?? GOOD!!!! Feel free to follow your empty threats and never return. EVeryone here seems to already know you are a bigger joke than that tiny little Wellstone fella. :)

Well if KE hasn’t dropped out by now we will surely lose him when he chases after Bucky to give him encouragement.

I can’t believe I have to wonder what my possible future congressman’s position on Ralph “Bucky” Phillips is.

  17. Big Kahuna Says:
    September 8th, 2006 at 12:17 PM

C’mon Hanna, everytime you get slammed on one of your silly views, you run away like a democrat from national security!!

Let’s hear again how it is the fault of republican’s that the liberals in Mpls spent their money on their pet projects first instead of taking care of basic community needs. Then you can blame the republican’s for talking all those city residents into giving Mr. Rybak grief for his very poor performance to which the boy mayor turned tail and ran as the last thing he will stand for is taking any grief from people who actually live under his rule.

Hey, come to think of it, Rybak runs from residents that want answers, you run away everytime one of your views is put down, and democrats in general want to run away from any efforts to protect us from terrorist, good lord knows we should be offering the same legal rights to those in mid eat countries as our own citizens! Let’s not forget all the liberal democrats who also want to run away from Iraq!1

Man that sure is a lot of turning tail and running! Funny you would try to say it is the other side that does that. :)

Oh another kicker!! How about you running away from your threat to leave this site as it has no value???

Fact is this is a great site and is getting lots of attention!! That would be why you will not go away, you know it is making a difference and you hate it!

Sure is nice of Mike to put together such a quality site to expose what you jokers are all about!!

Thanks Mike if I have not told you that already. :)

Not likely. You definititely seem to 1) have been hitting the kool-aid mid-day, and 2) have me confused with someone else.

// Let’s hear again how it is the fault of republican’s that the liberals in Mpls spent their money on their pet projects first instead of taking care of basic community needs. //

State the projects you object to, their cost, and how their funding could legally have been used for police and firemen.

I’d be happy to hear a well-founded alternative explanation for the reduction in policing.
