THE DFL PARTY LET STEVE KELLEY DOWN
By Michael B. Brodkorb | September 13, 2006
Steve Kelley could have continued his legislative career in the Minnesota Senate, but he put his faith in the DFL endorsement and decided to run for attorney general. The DFL Party let him down.
According to a dedicated reader of Minnesota Democrats Exposed who is also a prominent Democrat:
The DFL went into serious debt for Keith Ellison. They spent over $100,000 of general election money for Ellison mail and GOTV in Minneapolis. There was a serious fight at the DFL coordinated campaign committee two weeks ago with the Congressional challengers (CD 6, 3, 1) very angry that we were spending money to defeat fellow DFLers.
Margaret Kelliher Anderson released all her field staff the last two weeks of the campaign to support Ellison. This has angered may of the DFL big donors which beleive Ellison will be a huge drag on the ticket. The DFL is now officially in debt over $250,000 which they hope to erase at the Clinton event.
The DFL Party was more concerned about electing a supporting of Louis Farrakhan and convicted murderer Kathleen Soliah than Steve Kelley.

So, the DFL was wrong to spend money to defeat other democrats, and yet, we were also wrong not to support Steve Kelley’s effort to defeat other democrats? Strikes me that this logic just doesn’t hold water.
Last time I checked, Keith Ellison was just as endorsed and Steve Kelley was.
While I am sure you would like to revert to pre-1869 standards, and see him as three-fifths as endorsed as Kelley, the fact remains, Keith was endorsed, and Keith won.

Ellison will be a major drag on the ticket?!
Looking at the numbers from last night, it appears that Ellison’s precence on the ticket is going to pull out a lot of people who don’t usually vote to the polls in November. I think that can only help the Democrats.

//While I am sure you would like to revert to pre-1869 standards, and see him as three-fifths as endorsed as Kelley//
Ooh, play the race card instead of admit the truth about Ellison….have you been hanging out with Spike Lee, Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson this morning?
September 13th, 2006 at 10:27 am
I am fully willing to admit the truth about Ellison.
He will be a GREAT congressman.

Roving,
Two quick historical points. 1) If black people had been counted as 5/5 of a person, rather than 3/5, what would be the effect on voting power of slave states? 2) If we did revert to pre-1869, would you be a member of the Democrat party?
September 13th, 2006 at 10:56 am
Peter gets an “A” for knowing history. The reason for the 3/5ths thing was to minimize power in congress from the slave states. At the time of the constitutional convention, there were strong forces opposed to slavery and this was a tool to work against that institution.

Roving STRIB Distorter — Once again you DFL partisans demonstrate how you will undermine your
own endorsed candidates (STEVE KELLEY) and then act as if nothing wrong happened ! HATCH’s fingerprints are all over KILLING KELLEY ! THIS
IS PROOF POSITIVE THAT ANYTHING HATCH DOES OR SAYS CANNOT BE TRUSTED ! PERIOD.

Lori Swanson was the best candidate in the race, and the best for November. The DFL party should not have endorsed Steve Kelley — they did so seemly out of obligation for having bowed out of the Governor’s race gracefully.
People like Mike Hatch as Attorney General. He’s been a great advocate for regular people, and has agressively prosecuted companies who needed it. People would like to see that continue, and electing Lori Swanson is the way to do that. This race won’t be close in November.
I’ve been surprised at Hatch’s strength in the few polls for governor that have been released. I think his tough image is appealing to voters, despite what people here think. Everyone knows Tim Pawlenty seems to be a great guy to have a beer or a cup of coffee with. I don’t think that’s enough in this cycle. The fact that he had a bar owner take 11 percent away from him in the primary shows that he isn’t exciting the base.
George Bush did no Republicans a favor playing politics with 9/11. People are fed up with politics, so I hope Michael Brodkorp continues to use the scant weapons in his arsenal to continue to make molehills into mountains and avoid issues. He’s helping the Dems.

Hold on for just a moment here. Are we to understand from the email you received that the House Caucus put their paid field staff on the ground to help out a federal candidate?
Obviously I don’t have the full story on this yet, but if that is the case, that is a major campaign finance violation.
It deserves further investigation.

Jimmy-
So, picking one endorsed candidate over another is a sign that we undermine our candidates? Interesting. And I like how ruthlessness in our candidate is proof they can not be trusted, but when one of your candidates acts like this, they are simply determined.
Dumbing-
Every election season, staffers from both sides of the aisle volunteer on campaigns. Since they work together, often they campaign together in blocks. There is nothing illegal with co-workers getting toegether to door knock or lit drop for candidates.

Geo,(formerly Geo Reeve) Hey STUPORman, where can I get paid LIKE YOU DO, TO ACT AS A BROCHURE
FOR EVERY MIRROR FOGGING DFL HACK REGARDLESS OF
THEIR QUALIFICATIONS ? !!! I’ve been surprised by
the fact that HATCH is such a total WEASEL that
he will UNDERMINE his FELLOW ENDORSED candidates!
September 13th, 2006 at 12:11 pm
Nope, Nope, Nope… I work for the House Caucus as an organizer and we were not released to go work for Ellison for Two Weeks, the mere suggestion is crazy we all have our own races to focus on… There is really no investigation to be had, I just wonder where you get this stuff…
September 13th, 2006 at 12:13 pm
Additionally, I don’t know who your Democratic friennd is, but you might want to check anything else he says because that fact is just plain wrong
September 13th, 2006 at 12:15 pm
KE is no better than the ilk he defends.
Car bombers and jew haters.
Will we come to regard him as a leader for freedom and justice or as a shrill voice for the islamofacists that have infected the DFL?
Time will tell. But, history and FACTS are not on KE side.
September 13th, 2006 at 12:47 pm
I think its cute how crazy you all are this morning. Running around aimlessly, flailing your arms in dispair, crying and whining.
The republicans sure are going to sleep good tonight.
September 13th, 2006 at 12:56 pm
Chris, Dumbing it Don, JimJ, Mitch, No facts, Get over it- Ellison is going to Congress and Mark Kennedy is coming home. Michelle Bachmann will be at home too.
You know who else won? Mike Hatch. For all the bullshit you read on here, that guy still knows how to win. You all were oh so ready to count Swanson out because of her ties to Hatch (the NUMBER ONE VOTE GETTER in our state), and it put her over the top.
The 3/5 rule wasn’t just about representation in the House, it was about a sub-human class with zero to very little Constitutional protection or liberty. It was disgusting and a chicken shit way out of what eventually led us to the Civil War (actually avoided four times in the previous 20 years).
Anyone who tries to defend this as a simple number game, can line themselves up with those who are apologists and admirers of the greatest traitors to America- The Confederacy.
In terms of symbolism, that rebel flag ranks just below the Nazi flag.

“The republicans sure are going to sleep good tonight.”
Cop-killers will sleep well tonight too.

djz
hatch won what? the primary? beat lourey? so what? that surprized you? anyone who counted swanson out wasn’t thinking, hatch has an effective machine and she had a very good line to campaign on. having a tough guy woman image in these times didn’t hurt her either.
ellison’s on his way to dc, i agree. the 3/5 rule was abhorrent, no argument. who said it wasn’t for cryin out loud? but it ain’t 11/8 yet , pal.
September 13th, 2006 at 2:34 pm
The poster is correct.
The DFL honchos blew their wad on the 5th CD.
DFLers from outstate and the suburbs have been complaining for months about all the attention and money given to the 5th CD primary.
September 13th, 2006 at 3:54 pm
I could see their concern if we lost. But Keith Ellison won.
He took everything the republicans had, and he beat them running on a simple message of peace, justice and hope. These concepts were so confusing to the republicans, they had no choice but to fear the messenger.
September 13th, 2006 at 7:38 pm
Yep, and Keith is going to energize the DFL faithful, since he is basically diametrically opposed to Bush and his politics.
There was a big turnout for the primary, I understand. There’ll be a big turnout in November, too.
The more the Republicans help to get Keith’s ideas around, the better the Democratic turnout is going to be.
We know the Republicans tell lies, and the lies told about Keith will be dismissed. Instead, his face will be getting into every household in the state, and his ideas about getting us out of Iraq are going to resonate with every National Guard family in the state.
Times are changing, GOP. Best try to make the most of the time you have left.
Maybe you could change the law and let Bush take another four years?
September 13th, 2006 at 9:32 pm
JimJ, nothing better than name-calling? Shouldn’t reinforce all those stereotypes of the right, doesn’t help your cause.
