SHERIFF’S ASSOCIATION CLAIMS DFL ENDORSED CANDIDATE FOR SHERIFF “NOT QUALIFIED”
By Michael B. Brodkorb | September 18, 2006
Juan Lopez is the DFL endorsed candidate for Hennepin County Sheriff. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Deputies Association took a vote of "no confidence" in Juan Lopez's candidacy.
"Following Tuesday’s primary election in the Hennepin County Sheriff’s race, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Deputies Association took a vote of 'no confidence' in Juan Lopez, one of the two successful finishers in the race. Members of the organization find Lopez’s lack of qualifications and experience troubling. Lopez is not a licensed peace officer. 'The voting public should know more about Lopez's background,' said Pat Denman, President of the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Deputies Association. 'Despite Mr. Lopez’s claim that he has significant experience in the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, he has never worked in the Sheriff’s Office as a licensed peace officer, and as far as we can tell, the sum total of Lopez’s law enforcement experience is a four (4) month probationary period with the Bloomington Police Department back in 2001.'
'Has he ever answered a 911 call or walked down an alley alone as a peace officer, supervised a shift or managed an agency budget?' asked Denman. 'He simply is not qualified to lead the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.'" Source: Hennepin County Sheriff's Deputies Association
Wow…it gets even better:
"'Members took this vote of 'no confidence' to express our great concern that voters might be misled by his claims of experience. The bottom line is he is not a cop, and not currently licensed by the Minnesota Peace Officers Standards & Training Board, the organization that maintains licensing status for police officers across the State of Minnesota.'" If this is all true, then he probably shouldn’t be elected. Hell, I would go so far as to suggest that he return to his other true love, Real Estate Sales

I guess every dog has their day.
One question: What did he do in the Sheriff’s Office?
He clearly worked there and carried a gun and ID (not sure about the badge part). I see some funny political language being used in the Deputy Associaion peice. There are investigators and psycologists and weapons experts who are not deputies that work for the department.
I’ll need more info before taking the word of these clips.

The link went to the deputies endorsement of Rich Stanek, proving once again that Michael fears context, but still, with the number of qualified candidates in the field, it seems odd that this guy would get the nod.
People must REALLY hate Rich Stanek.

Damn… thats gotta hurt, next thing you know, the endorsed DFL candidate for Senate will not get the endorsement of anyone who actually worked with her in her office.
OOOPs, too late…

Um, almost.
Klobuchar was endorsed by AFSCME, the union that represents most of her workers.

Once again, the facts do not support you, uh, “Facts”. Perhaps you should change your name to “Just the Fudge, Ma’am”!

DJZ: // One question: What did he do in the Sheriff’s Office? //
According to Lopez’s website:
// * 10 years veteran of the Hennepin County
Sheriff’s Office as a Detention Deputy,
Interpreter, and Recruitment Coordinator
* Juvenile Probation Gun Program Case Manager
* U.S. Army Military Police Veteran //

Hard to believe that MB/MDE and the “support the troops” crowd is attacking another veteran!
I thought we were supposed to support the troops no matter what!

RR-
Thats not saying much at all… gubmint workers not affiliated with the process of law enforcement or prosecution doesn’t add much weight to the debate.
Also, the membership at large did not vote or authorize the endorsement directly. It was voted on by a council. (as is the case with most of these entities)
Please, for the record, name one prosecutor who has actually TRIED and CONVICTED a murderer in Hennepin County who has endorsed AK??? OOps, trick question for ya!!! AK doesn feel the need to prosecute or bring to justice criminals.

Actually it was voted on at a general meeting, and the vote was unanimous
