NOAH KUNIN IS JERK BLOGGER WHO ILLEGALLY VIEWED KENNEDY’S ADS
By Michael B. Brodkorb | September 20, 2006
This jerk apologizes to Klobuchar's campaign for "placing the organization under inappropriate scrutiny", but he doesn't apologize for illegally viewing Kennedy's ads:
"At a hastily called press conference late Wednesday, Noah Kunin, who maintains the liberal blog www.blanked-out.com, revealed that he uncovered the ad. He said he was at the Web site of Kennedy media consultant Scott Howell, looking for previously aired examples of his work. Kunin said he typed the word 'Allen' into a field at the site, seeking the ads of Howell client U.S. Sen. George Allen, which led to several more links that ultimately brought up the Kennedy ad." Who is Noah Kunin?
"Noah began his academic career far away from politics in the research lab. At the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, he studied genetics and earned an internship at the National Science Foundation. The events of September 11, 2001, inspired Noah to rethink his course of study. He switched his major to Political Science and actively participated in several campaigns, including the re-election campaign for Senator Paul Wellstone.
In early 2004, Noah volunteered with GOTV efforts in South Dakota during the primaries. He became reenergized and looked for opportunities to continue working on the presidential campaign. Noah found GCI, which was enough to get him to postpone graduation. And, he moved to San Diego to direct our street canvassing operations.
Noah has so far enjoyed everything about directing the office, especially the process of building an efficient, effective team. The San Diego office, along with GCI's other offices in CA, have recruited over 100,000 donors for the DNC - a number that will keep growing until Election Day." Source: Grassroots Campaigns

You need to further explain “illegal” If it was illegal, under what statute?

MB,
Until the ad is released to the public, it’s just work product. No? It may never see the light of day, or be released in that form.
You can’t take somebody’s croquet set just because they left on the front lawn.

Here’s another ad you can watch on Scott Howell’s site. Not illegal - it’s publicly accessible.

Investigative Report coming soon on Minnesota Stories showing just how easy and legal it is to find campaign video ads on Scott Howell’s web site. They cleaned up the site tonight, but I was able to document the lack of security before they did that.

Michael-
Could you please provide me with a list of sites on the internet that are illegal for me to view.
The reason I don’t put all the contents of my hard drive on the internet is because I don’t want people looking at my stuff. When I DO put stuff on the internet, generally, it is so other people can see it.
Or, am I just being a jerk for pointing out how stupid your ad guy is?

Just FYI. Grassroots Campaigns International — far from grassroots, it’s one of those well-funded grey area outfits. More like Astroturf.
And it’s also one of your more amusing hypocrites. While it fights for “social justice,” it’s been caught cheating its own employees out of minimum wage. It pays its door-to-door shakedown artists, excuse me, fundraisers, 30% of what they collect and a bonus of 17% more if they make quota. Given that the for-profit company has another rakeoff to pay its well-compensated execs in Boston, it’s probable that candidates are only seeing 5% to 10% of what the door-to-door dweebs like Noah are collecting.

Roving Reporter said on another thread: “So, five posts on the fact that Kennedy’s campaign leaked an ad to Klobuchar’s campaign…”
Where did you get this bit about it being leaked? Pulled out of your…?
RR in post #4 above:”Or, am I just being a jerk for pointing out how stupid your ad guy is?”
I’m vaguely recalling a recent episode when a GOP staffer was browsing the mutually shared network in D.C. and noticed the Democrats had unsecured their portion of if. The staffer promptly found memos pertaining to Democrat strategy for stalling judicial nominations for little reason than certain lobbying groups willed it. The Democrats howled then, the GOP prostrated itself in response. I supposed “Roving Reporter” thought the Democrats were “just stupid” then for leaving their files unsecured and the GOP staffer did nothing wrong?

Roving Reporter, the “password” page makes it pretty clear that the pages behind it were not meant for public consumption. Hacking past web pages, while a venerated collegiate passtime, is still an intentional violation of privacy.
(”Allen”? HTF did Noah Kunin come up with “Allen”? The name “Allen” doesn’t belong to any of the parties identified in stories I’ve read on this, so the method Kunin used to get “Allen” will be interesting to learn. Somehow, “lucky guess” doesn’t pass the smell test.)
I bet you think you’re on the side of the good guys. Well, here’s a clue; good guys act like good guys, not like sleazy opportunists. Re-think.

Really. You don’t think holdong press confernces to tie a computer savvy blogger with a political opponent is opportunism?
Interesting. What color is the sky in Republicanland?

MB:
There are a number of potential crimes here (presuming the facts pan out). They include 18 USC 1029 (fraudulent use of an access device); 18 USC 1030 (fraud related to computers); and 18 USC 2701 (unlawful access to stored communications).
RR:
There is a lot of information on the internet that is still considered private, for example my bank and phone records (probably yours too).
September 21st, 2006 at 6:13 pm
RR: Your going to be sadly disappointed, I got nailled for “hacking” into a computer that had the password written on the whiteboard in the room it was in(and I had legal access to the room). This was under CO law, but the feds have similar statutes. Kunin better get a good lawyer fast and shut up, probably too late now, as he’s just made the prosecutor’s case about lack of authorization.

All human situations have their inconveniences. We feel those of the present but neither see nor feel those of the future; and hence we often make troublesome changes without amendment, and frequently for the worse.
