KENNEDY CAMPAIGN: UPDATE ON STATUS OF INVESTIGATION INTO THEFT OF KENNEDY AD

(St. Paul, Minnesota) – Pat Shortridge, Campaign Manager for Mark Kennedy 06, released the following statement:
"Earlier today, the Kennedy Campaign was contacted by the FBI. An agent came to our office and asked a series of questions.
"Subsequent to that conversation, the FBI contacted Scott Howell and Company. Regarding that conversation, I would refer you to Dan Allen in their office at [phone number redacted].
"Following my conversation with the FBI agent, it was made clear to us that Amy Klobuchar's campaign could, without interfering with the investigation, answer many of the serious questions we asked yesterday, such as why did they wait five days to notify us.
"Finally, as a result of my conversation with the FBI, new questions arise, such as, when did the Klobuchar campaign actually contact federal authorities? There are also questions about who from the Klobuchar campaign actually contacted the FBI.
"We will provide additional information and updates as events merit."

I bet that they are not going to put her in front of the cameras, because she is not able to handle the questions.

Yes, there is an FBI inviestigation, Annie–because Amy Klobuchar requested one.
Get this through your heads, righties, the only reason this is an issue is because the Klobuchar campaign did the right thing and reported this. And it’s good to see you rewarding them for doing the right thing with rumor and innuendo.
Noah Kunin may be in some trouble, and I think it may be deserved. McGuinness was rightly fired. Amy Klobuchar, however, has not been shown to have done anything wrong–and all the bogus questions in the world won’t change that.

Remember, we are the problem, not the actual criminals.
Its always our fault and it can be said w/o any stain on the DFL conciense that “might makes right” and the “ends justify the means”.
Look closely for more spinning on the left to occur as details come forth.

Actually, what I would like to know is whether Mark Kennedy has fired Scott Howell for making such a monumental mistake when it comes to client confidentiality? Or is it normal practice for media consultants to beta-test commercials on public websites without anybody’s knowledge?

That is amazing, now only if there were some facts rather than hearsay and posturing to deal with. Here’s a fact or two:
Iraq had no WMD’s at the time of the US invasion.
Iraq had nothing to do with Al Qaeda, Bin Laden, or Zarqawi.
Gas Prices are up.
Secondary Education prices are up.
Health costs are way up.
But I guess campaign ads are the issue in this campaign.

You know, I read your blog to get the other side of the argument, so I don’t become one of those brainwashed liberals you talk about. Not that you care, but I’m done here now. I find the rhetoric too overwhelming, sometimes from people who disagree with you in the comments section too. But the bottom line is that Amy fired her communications director over this. This sort of thing does happen on campaigns sometimes, and you usually don’t here about it, because the aide isn’t fired, since most candidates don’t have the strong ethics of Amy Klobuchar. Those are the facts.You can’t seem to grasp that. I bid you adieu.

My two cents here. I have 25 years computor work, a lot dealing with security and ethical issues. Also in dealing the Sara Jane Olson/Kathleen Ann Soliah/Symbionese Liberation Army prosecution via my website http://soliah.com I dealt extensively with one of the top political consultants who also championed the case. I learned the “biz” from him but I am trying to stay out of the fray> I have maybe fifteen months until early retirement. http://ruleof90.com
First point is that this could potentially become a landmark case which concerns the mainstream media. As I understand it the ad was a work in progress subject to revision before public release. Candidate message have the I’m ______ and I approve this message.” thing. To use the idea that a draft message is a public statement is very dangerous in the age of the internet. As an example, let’s say a newspaper reporter writes a story and puts it on the computor for the editor (or whatever to review). Editors often say “you may know that but you can’t say that because they can’t prove it. What if the draft version is hacked and ends up on the internet before being vetted by an editior. (Oh I forget, democrats aren’t vetted as evidenced by the lack of the mainstream media to find Keith Ellison’s civil violations in the public record.)
This is what is at stake here. Weather a “rough draft” not released to the public is considered “confidential” if hacked. My position is that a “work in progress” is not. The key factor is productivity. Electronic communications can greatly enhance the development of ideas but there can be a chilling affect if “hacker” can access these works in progress and potentially use them or distribute them over the internet. To the best of my knowlege this has not come up before the US Supreme Court. I would be happy to file a Friend of the Court Brief on the case though I must disclaim I am not a lawyer. I have a rather unique but not complete body of knowlege here. The position on this is easy. Does the party “approve this message?”.

(Ask Kevin Mitnick). It should be easy to find a violation of law. I assume that thaat the alledged violation occured in Hennepin County so it would be Hennepin County’s prosecution. That is Amy Klobuchars (sp) office so there would be a conflict of interest. It needs to be transfered to a different office. This alone would create publicity. The Supreme Court stuff is three to five years away so it won’t affect this election.
Even we “internet types” get a lot of stuff that we can’t use. As an example, when Kathleen Ann Soliah/Sara Jane Olson did a network TV interview that (I believe) led to her downfall I got lots of emails about “inapropriate activity” between the host of the piece and one of Soliah/Olson’s lawyers. I shared my information (confidentially) with the prosecutors (this I could not done if a hacked message risked being published.) The host was fired and didn’t resist it. I assume the host was confronted with “the goods”.
Soliah/Olson’s statements in the interview, In my humble opinion, lead to her and the rest of the Symbionese Liberation Army eventually pleading guilty. The Ritchie campaign retaliated with its own behind-the-scenes political maneuver. Republican campaign staffer Kevin Kahn sends Sam Seaborn a video anonymously which contained an attack ad with no source or sponsor against Bartlet. Sam decides to sit down with Kahn, against the express wishes of Josh Lyman, Toby Ziegler, and Bruno Gianelli, and during the meeting hands the video over to Kahn (trying to show Bartlet wasn’t attacking Ritchie, but also saying the Bartlet campaign had an ad like it “in a drawer” if the Ritchie campaign struck first). Unfortunately, Kahn had played Sam the entire time, leaking the video to the press and telling them it was given to the Ritchie campaign by Sam. As such, the news reported on the story of the leaked video, the video got played constantly in primetime on news networks, and the Ritchie campaign remained clean as they had not actually done anything but mail a videotape (which was only privately proven).

However I must add that instead of immediately calling the police as she should have she called the FBI five days later!!!
And why?
Because the FBI investigation will be federal and kept quiet from local authorities and take forever!!!
Well past the election day!
So she has it all wrapped up nice and tight and out of the way until the voters have spoken.
And she took five days to get the ball rolling in it.
This is completely wrong and deceitful of her.
Tara is senior and is experienced. She knew better than to participate in this kind of thing…unless it was standard procedure for her???!!!
Coverup Klobuchar has a lot of explaining to do and if she is innocent why doesn’t she answer the questions posed to her now????

What’s the difference between someone hacking in to a secure computer to steal campaign secrets and someone busting into the Watergate Hotel to steal campaign secrets?
My guess is Amy knows the worst is yet to come.

Wow. Pat Shortridge seems like a trustworthy enough guy. I mean, after he left Enron, he came to work for Mark Kennedy. I’m pretty sure we should trust whatever that Enron lobbyist says.

I think your post has hit the isue doe AMy right on the head here. If she had turned it over to local police as she should have it would end up in HER office.
And we all know that the staff would have fone wild to prosecute her or to cooperate in the prosecution of her in any way they can.
Hence the FBI, saying they complained on Monday, probably an inquiry phone call from a staffer, and then a formal on WEDNESDAY and only then notifying Kennedy as if he had no interest in this at all. I don;t beleive that she notified Howell at all. It was handled poorly.

We don’t know this yet Jeff……..and it definitely shows Amy’s poor judgment in who she hires. Why she might even hire a bunch of leakers from the CIA who would sell out our country for political points!!
