DFL PARTY CHAIRMAN: U.S. SENATE RACE “IS TIGHTENING UP”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | September 29, 2006

Star Tribune reporter:  Are you aware that the Kennedy campaign is pushing some recent polls that show the senate race apparently narrowing 8 or 9 points?

Brian Melendez:  I'm not aware that he’s pushing that but I think that's actually probably accurate.  I think the race is tightening up. I didn’t know that he was saying that but he’s got about the same information that we’ve got.  Source: Brian Melendez press conference, September 29, 2006, State Capitol.

I’m sorry- I don’t understand “pushing polls”? A poll was done by Survey USA– showing an 8 point difference in the race- per realclearpolitics.com polling data, I can’t see that Survey USA is a Republican biased poll. It’s a legit poll. What does “pushing polls” mean? Again- can’t wait for the spin. C’mon Strib don’t let me down!!

    Correct!

[...] In a rare moment of candor this afternoon, DFL Chair Brian Malendez agrees that the Minnesota race for U.S. Senate is tightening (H/T MDE): Star Tribune reporter:  Are you aware that the Kennedy campaign is pushing some recent polls that show the senate race apparently narrowing 8 or 9 points? Hey, Doug, you are an idiot.
Now there is a fact we cannot argue.

Good one! See my other response to you.

Remember DRL, facts are for *true* things, not stories you make up. But that made me smile.

My Kennady sign just arrived today! In the 5th district it’s a lonely little sign, but I can’t tolerate anyone mistaking my family as dims.

Hopefully, Oct. surprise will push Kennady over the top!!

Can someone get Melendez some media training. That was one of the most stupid statements given to the MSM at a most critical time in the race.

annie rice – You can’t even spell your favored candidate’s name right? I’d be curious to know what you think he’ll do for you, as you are certainly following him closely.

    September 29th, 2006 at 8:55 PM

oh sorry, do I have the spelling correct now?
Kennedy? I think i’ll be able to recognize his name when it’s time to vote. Unlike leftys, I don’t want him to do anything for ME. I want him to love his country and uphold the constitution. I could give you a total list of issues i’d like to be resolved but I know , in the end, they are in good hands.

annie rice – great! Republicans do have the ability to learn. I’m sure there’ll be a nice big picture of him next to his name, so no worries.

If ‘loves his county and upholds the constitution’ was enough, that’d be great. I’d run for office. Unfortunately, MK’s spending money like a Democrat on steroids, with little to show. Sometimes I wonder if China will buy us out.

And speaking of little to show, that’s him. I can’t point to anything he’s done, except agree with the president as GW strips the constitution bare, and granting the executive branch anything they want, with no oversight.

Incidentally, did you know that quoting the constitution during a traffic stop is now enough to brand you a ‘potential terrorist’ according to the FBI?

MK’s party doesn’t sound like the one I want safeguarding the constitution.

As far as your ‘lefty’ and ‘Dim’ comments, I don’t know what Democrat pooped in your cereal, but a broad brush leads to paint getting on things you didn’t mean to color.

You seem like you could be reasonable if the situation demanded it. Perhaps you might read up on what those who aren’t voting for MK are saying, and weigh it on the merits of the content rather than the messenger.

Am I trying to convert you? Nope. Just trying to break habits of ignoring information that conflicts with your worldview.

Wow, Doug, take your meds and try get a grip. Really, not everyone is out to get you.

“Incidentally, did you know that quoting the constitution during a traffic stop is now enough to brand you a ‘potential terrorist’ according to the FBI?”

Just how many people have been branded a potential terrorist when all they did was quote the constitution when pulled over for a traffic stop? Would you care to provide links (that the FBI will not brand me as potential terrorist for visiting)?

Tom S – Thanks for your concern. I think it is misplaced.

‘How many people have been branded a potential terrorist’ because of this? I don’t know. I’m rather sure if I called about it, the FBI would not have any numbers for me.

This is a pretty standard 2nd amendment website, not a Koreshian full-a-crazies compound from what I gather. The article is from 2001.

Perhaps this *is* just one FBI agent, doing his part. A ‘lone individual’. Or maybe it’s an attitude held by many. Or an ‘unspoken’ agency agreement, and lone FBI agent made the mistake of publishing.

It’s five years after this pamphlet was made. Are we paying more or less attention to terrorism now?

Check it out, if you dare. Your fear of visiting certain ‘sites’ is telling of the attitude that pervades these days. Are you a potential terrorist for investigating abuse of power?

    September 30th, 2006 at 4:49 PM

    Doug,

Thanks for the link–I threw caution to the wind and visited it (phew!). I continue to doubt that the FBI will brand me a potential terrorist if all I do is quote the Constitution at a traffic stop. Especially since the FBI does not make routine traffic stops.

I think you might find this site interesting. http://www.adl.org/mwd/trafstop.asp

I suggest you follow the directions here the next time you are stopped.

    September 30th, 2006 at 6:29 PM

Tom – Yeah, the FBI is not going to be pulling you over, but this pamphlet was made by the FBI to give to local law enforcement departments – sort of a ‘How to Spot a Terrorist’ manual for those who will make traffic stops.

Thanks for the links, I read the linked pages; I’ll have to dig some more when I have more time.
